This is the face of a real life hero.
Sadio Mané “I resisted hunger, I worked in the fields, I survived wars, I played football barefoot, I had no education and many more things, but today with what I earn from football, I can help my people.
"I built schools, a hospital, we offer clothes, shoes, food to people living in extreme poverty. In addition, I give 70 euros per month to all people in a very poor region of Senegal." I don't need to flaunt fancy cars, fancy villas, travel, let alone planes, I'd rather my people get a bit of what life has given me."

Tomorrow is our HMI Interim inspection visit. The purpose of this visit is to measure the progress we have made since our last Ofsted inspection. Feedback from parents at the time of the last Ofsted was very mixed... if you'd like to share your views, the link to parent view is https://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk/give-your-views. We hope that you'll join us in celebrating the progress we've made at WJS!

Book Santa Elf – We have been asked to pass on massive thanks to Dora Punnett who volunteered to help at the Book Santa event at The Featherstaf on Sunday. Dora showed people around, cheered up children who were frightened of Santa(!), wrapped presents and generally made herself indispensable. She stayed for over two hours and helped raise a fantastic £125 to go to the “Read for Good” charity. Thank you Dora!
Update on the school crossing patrol - DCC have received an application for the post of school crossing patrol officer at North End. Once the applicant is in post, they will be able to be used on relief cover at Wash Green. Until then, we will continue to try and have a member of staff at the bottom of the drive to help children cross, but this may not always be possible.
Some parents have kindly offered to form a rota to help with crossing, if you would like to help out please let the office know. Any such arrangement would be on a voluntary basis and parents need to be aware that there will be no insurance cover for anyone who undertakes to cross children over the road.
DCC have also said that they are willing to appoint a Deputy Crossing Patrol officer (on a job share basis if necessary). If anyone would like to apply for this, please let the office know and we will pass on your details.
The local town council have made representation to DCC to try and ensure the crossing situation is resolved as soon as possible.
Look out for the ballot paper for the parent governor posts coming home tomorrow.

Calling all WJS Mums!
Roughly around two months ago Chris Winson created "Mums Football" - this is a chance for Mums of all ages (25-50 as it stands) to kick a ball around and have a laugh of (with the bonus of keeping fit) When it began he wasn't sure he could get enough for it to take off, but it did and he now has a team of roughly 20 ladies who can make it some weeks but not others.
He is now opening it up to see what response we would get to make sure it continues for many years. All that's required is to be available Wednesday 7.30-8.30. Its. £3.00 meet at the large Astro wirksworth (not every week if not possible), be willing to have a laugh and meet new people!
*The catch is you can't have played for a team before & you must have a very very strong Bladder because of all the laughs.
If you're interested in joining in, drop Chris Winson a message.
