Happy Easter from Astoria.

Thanks for all your wonderful support on our first day. We know it was a little clunky for us while we got used to new ticketing systems and new seating plans, as well being a bit too heavy handed with our heating levels, but we had great fun welcoming you all to the Big Screen - even if our Assistant Manager Michael gave a little cheer when he got to the final customer tonight!

Over 2,500 tickets have been sold at latest count. Thank you all so very much.

Back to do it all again tomorrow!

Dear Cinema Lovers,

"We are delighted to have brought this beautiful cinema back to life and have already started to carry out some improvements, others are planned including improving accessibility for mobility users, and there is much more to do, but we are committed to continue improving the cinema further and enhancing your cinema experiences. Retro-inspired artist and photographer, Rona McSeveny, creates eye-candy pictures which pop with brilliance and tell a story. Rona's most recent work, the Ayr Art Deco series, is inspired by the cultural, architectural and natural beauty of Ayr and beyond. Direct experience of each physical location is at the heart of every picture. Rona returns to her native Ayrshire after photographing 6 continents and living and exhibiting in London.

The Astoria Ayr poster was inspired by the local news that the Merlin Group had purchased the cinema in Robert Burns Square, and would reappropriate the original name of Astoria. "As a result, I returned the cinema back to its art deco glory", explains Rona. "Using the Astoria name is symbolic of the art deco period in 1938 when the cinema was built. For reference, I used the colour scheme of the Sunset Tower Hotel, in West Hollywood, L.A. (built 1931) which had suffered decline before being rescued and restored. Astoria ties the cinema back to an aspirational period of high art, design and entertainment for everyone".

Thanks to all the hundreds that attended the Jobs Fayre today. Our managers are making the final selections from the one-on-one shortlist interviewees and will be in touch really soon.
