Raising Southend: a Festival of Conversations 2024 is now underway! Five fantastic fun-filled FREE days of events for families and children aged 0-3 across the City!

We begin this morning with Let's Explore: Emotions with Dazzle at Salvation Army, Southend, followed by ABSS SEND Stay & Play at Little Heroes' Hub, Garon Park. We look forward to meeting those who have booked to join us!

We are working hard to bring you a programme of exciting FREE events for all the family from this Wednesday 26th June to Sunday 30th June.

We were delighted to see so many little ones (and adults!) having fun at our free event ahead of World Book Day at Shoebury Youth Centre last Wednesday!

Visitors enjoyed a morning of face painting, simple costume making ideas, t-shirt designing, colouring, storytime sessions, reading areas and a special visit from our mascot, Pip!

Families were introduced to Southend Story Sacks - co-produced by ourselves and SAVS - containing free storytelling and activity packs available to hire for free by families living within ABSS wards. We had many free, fun costumes available for families to take away and we hope all attended were inspired for the big day!

The event was co-produced between ourselves, City Family and SAVS for expectant families and/or families or carers of children aged 0-3 years.

Our A Better Start Southend (ABSS) Engagement Team has always looked to connect with, and represent, the voices of dads, including through events such as the Dads' Takeover at Shoebury Fire Station, sports days, and football sessions.

However, in the last year, they recognised that this work requires a more direct focus with conversations on mental health and wellbeing regularly highlighting potential gaps in existing services, and a general feeling of being unseen and unheard that many dads struggle with.
