Yet for children, it’s their most natural form of expression and communication. JOIN US for a fun and experiential workshop that will provide you with techniques to use at home and help you discover the important benefits of play for yourself and your family.

This workshop is designed to:

“Playfully Planning & Preparing for Primary 1”: Parent Power Hour sessions

💥 As some of you may know, I offer ‘parent power hour’ sessions - one-to-one online consultations with parents whereby we discuss the difficulties/challenges you are facing and possible ways to overcome them; in a playful manner, that makes sense to your child.

🏫 As the new school year is fast approaching, I recognise that some parents/families/children may feel as though they are entering “uncharted territory”… With this in mind, I have decided to run a series of parent power hour sessions tailored to those parents whose children are due to start primary school in September 2024. These specifically focus on playfully planning and preparing children for starting primary 1. A range of tips, tools and strategies will be covered; such as school preparation techniques to help your child thrive in the process, and ways of supporting potential separation anxiety.

Children's Mental Health Week runs from February 5th - 11th 2024 and I couldn't think of a better way to highlight the importance of children's mental health and wellbeing than bring an information fayre to the centre of Coleraine. 💙

This event will demonstrate the vast variety of clubs, services and groups for children of all ages that the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has to offer. ✨✨

For children who don't know what kind of club they would like to join or parents who are unsure of the support services that are within the community and how to get in touch this is the perfect event for you attend! 💙

I thank my own club Zanshin Shotokan Karate Club for many of the skills I have acquired throughout my life and believe that children benefit hugely from participating in clubs and groups therefore I wanted to provide everyone with the opportunity to speak with the leaders and facilitators on how get enrolled. ✨

👩‍👦At some point, most children face challenges/difficulties which they will need to work through in order to feel happy, confident and thrive at school. Often these issues can be solved at home, but sometimes help from outside our families, from a trained therapist, is what is needed to make sense of difficult feelings or things that have happened that are holding your child and family back.

This is an ideal opportunity for any children or families in the local & surrounding areas (Dunseverick, Lisnagunogue, Ballintoy, Bushmills, Ballycastle etc) who want to access play therapy services/support. If you’re interested, reach out & we can get the ball rolling with the referral process.

Axline’s Principles of Play Therapy 👥

Virginia Axline’s principles, alongside PTUK’s values & my own personal moral qualities, form an ethical framework for how I deliver play therapy to children.

Axline’s 8 principles are:
1. Develop a warm & friendly relationship with the child 😊
2. Accept the child as he or she is 🤗
3. Establish a feeling of permission in the relationship, so the child feels free to express themselves ☑️
4. Be alert to recognise the feelings the child is expressing and reflect these feelings back in such a manner that the child gains insight into his/her behaviour 🤔
5. Maintain a deep respect for the child’s ability to solve his/her problems and give them the opportunity to do so - it is the child’s responsibility to make choices & institute change 💭
6. Do not attempt to direct the child’s actions or conversations in any manner - the child leads the way, the therapist follows 👣
7. Do not hurry the therapy along - it is a gradual process 🕰️
8. Only establish those limitations necessary to anchor the therapy to the world of reality & to make the child aware of his/her responsibility in the relationship 🛑
