I have been blogging and writing on all things elderly for over 10 years now and feel the need to share ways to help you care for someone elderly. Such a useful aid for anyone who has lost the use of one hand either permanently or temporarily.
Preparing Food With One Hand - Caron Cares Preparing food with one hand is almost impossible. This useful board helps resolve many common food prep issues.
It’s National Nutrition and Hydration Week. We all know that we should eat a healthy, balanced diet and drink plenty of water. However, it’s not always that easy.
It’s equally important for elderly people to maintain a good diet and hydration is important for medication to work effectively. Good hydration also helps prevent urine infection which can be unpleasant and concerning for elderly people.
Busy lives and the constant increase in the cost of living makes having a healthy diet more challenging.
Here are 5 very simple things you can do to add some nutrients to your diet:
• Cook your potatoes in their skins. The skins contain antioxidants, magnesium and potassium needed by our bodies.
• Simmer veg rather in less water. Don’t wash away the goodness.
• Swop white rice and pasta for wholemeal. Often it costs the same but gives you added fibre and flavour.
• Take water with you wherever you go. Regular sips of water make it easier to drink more and save trips to the loo!
• Add more veg to tomato-based sauces and beans. Chop a tomato and some pepper and add to beans to increase intake and texture.
It's National Nutrition and Hydration Week.
We all know we should drink more water and eat a healthy balanced diet but it's hard to do at times.
