How much would a town centre billboard cost you? A small fortune.
But your salon's windows are free 24/7 advertising gold every day of the year.

1️⃣ High street stores pour money into their window displays for a reason. They know the value of eye-catching windows.

3️⃣ Be different: Add a twist or fresh angle.
4️⃣ Use bold shapes and colours: Keep headlines short and readable in seconds.
5️⃣ Focus at eye level: Incorporate movement to catch the eye.

"Goals are good for setting a direction, but systems are best for making progress." - James Clear, ATOMIC HABITS
In his mega best-seller, James Clear says marketing goals can give us direction and motivation in the short-term, but medium-term, a well-designed marketing system will always win.
Making small, incremental changes to our daily marketing routines (a system) is the best way to bring about lasting transformation.
When it comes to marketing your salon, why not try shifting from a goal-oriented mindset to a system-oriented approach?
Adding your brand colour to your Insta Stories can help you find new clients:
👉 Instant recognition – it’s like spotting your best friend in a crowd. Your brand colour sticks in people’s minds, making your posts quickly recognisable.
👉 Stand out – it’s like wearing a bright outfit at a party. It grabs attention and makes your salon stand out in a sea of social media content.
👉 Brand vibes – it sets the mood. Whether your brand’s a calming mint or an energising pink, it helps tell potential clients what they can expect from your biz.
Here’s a quick hack…
1️⃣ Open Insta Stories. Now tap the photos sticker to upload an image featuring your brand colour.
2️⃣ Use the colour picker tool to sample the colour.
3️⃣ Use this colour for your Story's background, text or draw tool.
4️⃣ Slide the reference image to the trash.
It’s probably the first thing a visitor to your profile sees. So, make the most of its 150 characters with this quick checklist:
1️⃣ Add keywords like beauty, salon and haircare.
2️⃣ Ensure your contact details are visible.
3️⃣ Promote your seasonal deals and latest offers.
4️⃣ Use link in bio tool for easy appointment bookings.
5️⃣ Include a strong call-to-action – "Book now."
6️⃣ Add your unique salon hashtag.
7️⃣ Use emojis for visual interest but don’t overuse.
8️⃣ Make a calendar note now to check it again in 3 months.
💡 And don’t forget to use the 'Highlights' feature to showcase services, reviews and special offers.
Did you know that the average hair and beauty business loses 10-25% of its clients each year?
Put another way, in 3 years you may lose around half of your salon client base. So being seen and found locally by potential local clients is key to your growth and profits.
Try these 2 tips to get found by new clients...
👉 Boost your local SEO rankings
Google loves showing high quality, reputable results to search queries. When your salon racks up good reviews and strong star ratings, it tells Google your clients are leaving happy – and that boosts your position in the search rankings.
Of course, there are lots of other factors too but getting glowing reviews is one of the best ways to boost your local Google ranking and catch the eye of new clients.
👉 Get seen with local hashtags
Always pop a location tag on your posts. It’s like putting a pin on a map that shouts, “We’re here.” This helps your salon pop up more easily in local searches on Facebook and Instagram.
And don’t forget to use local hashtags e.g. to expand your reach.
Try these and watch your salon attract fresh faces and keep your appointment books full.
With Father's Day is just around the corner, in my latest blog I’ve cover everything you need to know to target the right audience – PLUS it’s packed with salon promotion ideas and tons of inspo for putting some ‘Dad-Appeal’ into your salon social. And, of course, in-salon and local marketing tips to boost your sales 🤩

When an experienced stylist or therapist applies to your recruitment advert it’s very tempting to bite their hand off.
But… be careful.
Two weeks on you may regret your hasty decision 😱 as your new team member is constantly running late, bickers with your team and irritates your best clients.

Cast your mind back to last January.
Did you make any New Year resolutions for your hair or beauty biz?
Roll forward 6 months to June… how are you doing in these challenging times?
June may not be the traditional month to pause for reflection, yet it’s a brilliant time for a social media marketing reboot.
Why?
Because you’re half-way through the year and can judge what’s working. And what isn’t. And there’s still plenty of time to rekindle your salon social and get back on track for the second half of the year.
Not sure where or how to start? Then grab my free Guide and reboot YOUR social media plan for some incredibly persuasive, make-them-pay-attention-and-pull-out-their-wallet marketing. Reboot now… https://bit.ly/3N2cofx (no email needed).
Get your biz in front of potential 💛new clients💛 in your local community on salon social.
👉🏻 Be active on local Facebook groups. Choose ones that are relevant to your hair or beauty biz and could help you link up with potential clients. But don’t ‘spam’ the groups by bombarding them with hard sell posts about you and your business. Instead, show a genuine interest in what’s happening in the group. ONLY share information about your salon’s products and services if asked, and when relevant.
👉🏻 A salon social tactic that is often overlooked. Make sure you get noticed on social media run by other local businesses and influencers by commenting, sharing and liking.
By joining in the conversation you’ll raise your brand’s profile locally. You may also find some local business buddies for some future partnership marketing.
👉🏻 Always use location hashtags to make it easy to be found locally on social and get your salon maximum exposure.

Is your appointment book looking quiet? Tempted to run a flash sale to get the phone ringing and those online bookings pinging?
Hit pause 🛑
Don’t start slashing prices. Nope. Instead, think about running ‘added value’ salon or clinic promotions.
Think about it: Your loyal, regular clients already love what you do, so why throw your profit away by reducing your prices? It doesn’t make any business sense. It just hurts your bottom line.
To coax regular clients to book in the quieter months leading up to the festive season why not create a VIP added value offer. Simply add a free hair or beauty service which doesn’t cost you much money to do 😉 BUT persuades your regular clients to bring their appointment forward. Or even better, book an extra visit in November.
Try adding:
✔️ An upgrade to an Olaplex (or similar) treatment to hair colour services.
✔️ A complimentary file and polish for hands to every pedicure.
✔️ A complimentary mini microdermabrasion to facials.
The marketing trick to make your offers even more profitable 💰 is getting your offer terms and conditions spot on. Alice runs through these – as well as tons of other ideas for boosting autumn – in her new salon marketing blog here 👉🏼 https://bit.ly/3CWdK5H
Love it or loathe it, Black Friday is a cracking salon marketing tool.
But… only when used properly.
And that’s the trick ⚡
In her latest blog Alice looks at how beauty, aesthetic and hair businesses can make the most of Black Friday. You don’t have to go discounting and throwing profit out the window to have a successful Black Friday as you can read here https://bit.ly/30sI75V.
Do your profits plummet in autumn as salon clients s.t.r.e.t.c.h their appointments out to December?
Many hair and beauty businesses have a lean time in October/November.
But it doesn’t have to be slow.
Outpace the competition this October ⚡ with Alice’s latest blog https://bit.ly/3CWdK5H where she shares practical tips and easy-to-implement ideas to give your salon marketing a boost this fall.
As the sun mellows and the leaves turn, the new season is the perfect time to make a retail splash on your salon social. Get marketing those new colourways and seasonal hair and beauty products.
But... it’s pointless making a big marketing splash on social if your in-salon retail displays are boring, stale and (let’s be frank) meh 😬
Don’t worry. Hair and beauty merchandising isn’t rocket science – but getting it right will turn you into a retail star and boost your bottom line 🔥. Try these 10 simple steps to merchandising magic in Alice Kirby’s latest salon marketing blog here https://bit.ly/3nzM9Tx
REMEMBER: Your retail products won’t sell themselves. But strong merchandising + strong social marketing will.
In our latest salon marketing blog Alice Kirby looks at why a client blog is still a key tool to grow your biz. Even if you market on social. Read it here... https://bit.ly/3mYNpPK
