So, yesterday I threatened to put the Christmas tree up. Turns out I should have done that sooner!! Lovely morning out and now enjoying the smell of sun lotion in the back garden whilst looking up into the blue sky!

When it's Wednesday evening, there are two colourwork projects to work on, dye samples to check and recipes to be written down properly but your brain has all been used up for the day and all you can do is knit some swatches of some hand-dyed yarn. And that makes me very happy in itself. How was your day? #humpDay #nearlyTheWeekend
Dear lord!! We need to have a word about #scrapYarn. I've spent a couple of days pulling together all my "leftover" #sockYarn and didn't realise things were quite this bad!! Now in fairness, this is partly due to having knitted socks for years, running my own #yarndyeing studio (so there are often sample minis) and taking part in swaps. But this is now getting out of hand. For starters, I can't do any laundry, as the laundry basket is FULL! 🤣 My plan is to use #tourdefleece2024 to make a bit of a dent using my @erlbacherknittingmachines to crank loads of scrappy socks. Watch this space for updates!
New stock available in the shop now (and hopefully online by the end of the weekend!) Which one is your favourite?
Come and pick some colours using some inspiration from my Color Cube by @sarahrenaeclark Using my @ricorumi we selected shades 031, 034, 007, 026 and 024 and for @stylecraftyarns we selected turquoise, cloud blue, soft peach, saffron and spice. Tell me what you're up to on this glorious sunny day!!
First little walk through now that I can actually see the floor!! There is still loads of work to do but for now I'm enjoying a coffee actually sitting on my shop sofa, admiring my work. See you from Tuesday!!
Bellwether Yarns celebrates its first birthday!
And just like that our little shop in Leeds Corn Exchange is one year old!!
To say it's been easy would be a lie but it's also been a blast and I love sharing my passion for all things yarny with you.
To celebrate, the new floor is down, the kick plates have been polished (thanks Julie!!), we are creating some extra shelf space for more new yarns, and I may just have a slice or three of cake later.
Thank you to everyone who has joined me for the ride so far.
By the way, we have picked a name for our Bellwether. More on that tomorrow!!
Herdy has arrived!!
Herdy has arrived at Leeds Corn Exchange and wasted no time getting comfortable!! We are opening our doors officially on Wednesday, 25th August! Can't wait to see you all soon!
Fuelled by coffee we finished the shelving today and then wandered over to @owt.leeds for early dinner. Too hungry to wait and take photos you'll just have to go and try the Steak Plate yourself (steak, salsa verde and herby salad). It was absolutely beautiful. I could have quite easily licked the plate clean. Apparently that's not a thing - who knew?! 🍽️👅🤷♀️ Menu changes every three weeks!
Shearing season!!
Shearing has officially started and today I received my first two fleeces courtesy of Lyngarth Farm in North Yorkshire from their newly acquired Valais Blacknose sheep. They currently have two sheep (after not having sheep on the farm for some time) and they have been shorn using hand shears. The farm is looking to diversify and hoping to sell some of their fleeces going forward. (I think there will be a few more sheep coming to the farm but probably not large numbers). These are show sheep and they have even been washed before being shorn so these fleeces will be lovely to work with. Chunky peg loom rug (maybe keeping some of those fantastic locks for dyeing/weaving) is what I'm planning with them for now.
Added bonus is that the studio now smells of sheep!!
