Hazelwood Boarding Cattery

My mum has had her sewing machine out again, this time creating the 3 sunshades to keep temperatures comfortable in the cattery. I think they look great, thanks mum!!!

We have a new cat today…this one is a little different. A lady contacted me a few weeks back asking me to keep an eye out for her semi feral cat who had gone walkabout. A tabby and white cat was then spotted along our road by various neighbours as he tried to secure food, he enjoyed freshly cooked chicken from one neighbour along with nightly theft of their own cats food. He also joined the gang of black cats (5 in total😆) at another neighbour.

We borrowed a cat catching cage from Happy Ending rescue and last night he was caught! He’s in good condition, eating well with only a few war wounds. His owner is collecting him this afternoon and has booked ‘the’ op to help stop him straying.

As we know nothing about what he’s been doing and where he has been he has been secured in a dog crate in one of our stables so not quite the standard we like to offer but he’s safe and will be going home.

Here’s Lola, arrived this morning and has settled straight in. She’s another more mature lady who has definitely got life sorted!

I have a soft spot for Burmese. Look how similar my Toby was to Maddie…he had the roundness of the Burmese whilst she is a little more angular from the Siamese. He lived til he was almost 20 ❤️. They both ‘throw’ their voices the same way when they want something 😂

Our 3 Bengal boys LOVED being with Diane at Hazelwood Cattery. She's so attentive and kind. The boys had plenty to play with while they stayed and Diane has really thought about ways to keep her little guests occupied.

During our stressful house move, Di took them on last minute and gave us peace of mind to focus on want we had to do.

We had regular photos and updates each day on how they all were doing, we were very grateful to her and the boys will be back again.

Maddie is bird watching!

Look at this gorgeous girl. Maddie is a tonkinese…she has the most beautiful aquamarine eyes and, given her 17yrs of age, looks stunning!

She is very vocal and talks with a typically Burmese accent.

She has some mobility issues so we have arranged steps and boxes so that she can get between levels if she doesn’t like the ramp.

She has never stayed in a cattery before but she’s already snuggled up on my lap, purring loudly and is eating well!!

This week we welcome Darcy.

Darcy is a mature lady who enjoys a gentle fuss and a good long sleep. She’s also very very little!

She’s the first to try out the super comfy calming beds. I wish I was small enough to curl up in one.

It’s black cat week. We have Abby, Harry, and Monty (black and white) and now Jasper!!

Jasper has come with all his comforts from home and I really think it does help them to settle in. He is quite rightly spoilt and enjoyed his fresh chicken after breakfast this morning. My nickname for him is chatty as he has something to say to me every time I go past his run.

Monty is only 8 months and it’s his first time in a cattery. He is also an indoor cat so hasn’t seen as much of the world as some.

He was a little unsure and shy when his owner left him yesterday. I don’t like to put any of the cats under pressure so I have been popping in and out, chatting to him every time I walk past and, as each hour has passed he’s become more content. We’ve a little way to go but he takes comfort from his blanket from home and I have been bribing him with dreamies. He has a very loud purr when he is happy!

The shutters we have at the front of the Cattery are really great at letting fresh air in and keeping drafts out whilst still keeping the Cattery light and airy.

In anticipation of a lovely hot summer we have repurposed an old gazebo. The frame is almost up (see pic of my hard working husband) and we now need to make the sun shades - watch this space!

Harry arrived yesterday and is already giving me lovely head bumps and wet nose kisses.

He’s very mellow, here he is…

Meet Abby, she is staying with us long term whilst her owners relocate to the UK.

She’s only been here a day but has settled well, is chatty and relaxed. I am thinking up lots of different ways to keep her life interesting.

At last, we have our sign to help you all find us more easily.

It’s so satisfying seeing our business name and logo on a sign outside our house.

Makes me smile every time I look at it!

Today was a really special day. We welcomed our first customers.

Chester, Zander and Bodhi arrived this morning. You’ll see from the pictures that they are Bengals. Stunning to look at and all 3 are super confident and really really affectionate.

Anyway, that’s enough for now. I’m off to have some cat cuddles!!

I met some new customers yesterday, they have a kitten who is refusing to drink water. Adult cats should drink about 60ml of water every day. International cate care have some excellent advice on all things cat. They are my go to for great advice!

The kind lady from Maidstone licensing hand delivered my licence yesterday and I felt very proud to have it on display in reception!

The suspense is over...

The lady from Maidstone Borough Council animal licensing and a Vet came to review the premises, check my processes and procedures and quiz my knowledge.

I hadn't expected the experience to be quite so enjoyable!

The worse part was waiting to hear what their recommendation would be and I'm both relieved and delighted to say that they both concluded that I would be rated as 4star.

The 4star rating is the highest rating that a new cattery business can be given due to not having been in operation and I had worked tirelessly in an attempt to achieve this.
