One step closer.
Film and music sent to Mumbai for final review.

21/02/2024

Bonkers!! Now using the reverb of muted tracks as instruments. Sounds good though.

For those of you wondering what we do all day - here is a clip.

It's designed to sit below a scene. There is a lot going on in the scene and the music needs to support the emotion and not be very interesting of itself.

This is part of the film project with Green Life Frames.

Sax, light percusion, electric piano and a wash of vocals today. A laid back, lazy melody on the sax. Working on a incidental, seductive, scene in the film.

Lol!!!

Busy writing the music for a feature film set in Mumbai.

Been working in the music for some time. Always surprised by the music and sounds that come out of a project like this. Hopefully, will be able to share something soon.

Day off. Went to Newborough. Beautiful day. Really good to get some exercise and fresh air.

Back to the film tomorrow, refreshed. 😀

Starting a new project.
"New Start", a feature film shot in Mumbai.

Having done some preparation it's pen to paper day. Always unnerving, although it's not quite a blank page. We have film, characters, story, laid out before us.

More to follow as it evolves. 😀

Part of the interview to this amazing story, that involved crew from Holyhead, was recorded recently at Phoenix Studios.

Take the time to listen.

"This is a story about an incident that took place over 40 years ago now.

It involved Holyhead Towing's deep sea tug 'Afon Goch' and her crew.

In particular, two men I am still in touch with and who shared with me an incident that still comes knocking on memory's door every now and again.

Broadcast on RTE's Documentary on One, it is something that I will never forget, as I think neither will Roger Price Jones and Patrick John Pritchard."

Skyhope A giant ship gets stuck at a Co.Kerry village pier. It brings with it exotic fun and a dreadful disaster. It was called a “thirsty ship”: it filled up with fresh water while the crew drank their fill in the local pubs. Great craic until one sailor buried a meat cleaver in his shipmate’s head. ...

This weekend we were part of the madness, fun and , at times, nail biting tension of The 48 Film Project with Slate It Media. It is, without doubt, the fastest we have ever worked to produce a soundtrack for the film.
Thank you to everyone in the team. We came away with something we can be proud of.

13/10/2023

Wish us luck!!

Taking part in the 48 hour film festival this weekend with Slate It Media. 48 hours to make a film from scratch. We are responsible for the soundtrack!

Each team is given a genre, a character, a prop and a line of dialogue and must include all these elements in their film.

Many thanks to Lizzey Joy Ross & Lloyd Degler for working so hard to record this music over the summer.

It's the opening music to "The Skull", a play for radio written by Eric Smith. The music was written by Shelley Aldred

This is an ongoing project for Phoenix Studios. More to follow.

It was a great experience working with The Tyddyners to create their album 'Naughty Dog'.

The project started before the pandemic when we spent a couple of days at Tyddyn Môn working with Marcus and The Tyddyners. It had been decided that it would make them more comfortable if we recorded them on-site. We brought a mobile studio and over the couple of days recorded enough live takes to be able to put the album together.

We wanted to capture their joy in the music and how you feel, as the audience, at their live performances. Live albums are always tricky as quite a big part of the experience is actually being there.

We think we have managed to capture the unique qualities of The Tyddyners.

If you are at Folk On The Farm there is no better souvenir that you can take with you. The Tyddyners represent the spirit of FOTF. All money generated by the sale of their album contributes to the money raised by the festival for this good cause.

Get yourself a copy before you leave!!

Phoenix studios is proud to be involved in The Tyddeners First Album that will be launched at Folk On The Farm on Friday.

It was a privilege to record them and share their joy in the music.

Seven years ago this was the view from the door of our old studio - qwax studios. This could have been the end but it was instead the beginning of Phoenix Studios Mon. It prompted us to eventually make the move to Anglesey. Nothing stays the same and we have to continually adapt.

'Up from the ashes of disaster grow the roses of success'. Lyric from one of my favourite songs as a child.
