Often our clients will have more than one business and we're happy to work across all companies. Think of us as a Virtual Finance Dept Services to clients that don't have the budget or space but would still benefit from the support. We offer Bookkeeping, Payroll (Inc. How long do you need to pitch your business to a room?

This was a question that came up recently when networking with some connections.

I am big on business networking, it's great for making connections and is important for growing business, especially as I work remotely with my clients.

7 Seconds, 20 Seconds, 60 Seconds, 2 Minutes, Whatever it is, you need to be able to pitch your business in a way that grabs the attention of others, so what should you remember to include?

Let's start with the basics

Who you are ( Your name)
Where your from ( Your company or location)
What you do ( What services do you offer)

These sound obvious, but people do forget!

If you have enough time, then I'd also recommend getting in your strapline.

Mine has changed over the last 12 months, from

"Providing a professional service, with a personal touch"

to

"I'm Victoria from VJR, Supporting your business, so you can focus on growth and success"

If I'm 100% honest, I'm still not convinced by it, but I'm sure I will eventually settle on one that's right.

Whatever it is, it need to be catchy and suit you.

Finally, if you have more time, tell people about what you've been up too, the problems you've solved, the solutions you offer and who you'd like to connect with.

5 tips for organised business finances:

1. Set up a system.

This is often one of the first things that we do after onboarding a new client. If you already have a system in place that works, Brilliant! but if you don't then we help you put one in place/

2. Be consistent.

This goes without saying really, but consistency is king!

3. Reconcile regularly.

As a minimum we encourage clients to reconcile monthly and if the business is quite big then we aim for weekly. It's much easier to reconcile whilst it's fresh in your mind, than 6 months later when you can recall what the transaction was for.

4. Use technology.

Technology is great when used correctly! We use software for importing transactions, for producing reports, heck, I even use AI to help with content creation, but you have to find what works for your business.

5. Get help if needed.

When it comes to getting help, often people are reluctant too because they fall into this trap of "I can do it myself", no one is doubting your ability to do it yourself, it's about decided when to bring in help.

I can do the gardening myself, but twice a year I bring in a gardener who can do it in half the time it'd take me, do a much better job and with alot less swear words 😜

My time is better spent working in the business with our clients than in the garden attempti ng to trim the hedge.

Why is Bookkeeping important for Entrepreneurs?
(or any business owner)

This is a great question that was asked recently by a potential client.

Whilst they were fantastic at creating businesses and making money, they weren't so good at keeping records and had come to us for support.

Briefly we had a discussion on the fact that;

Bookkeeping helps you track your income and expenses.
(This potential client had no idea how much they were spending on thing like travelling and business entertaining)

Bookkeeping helps you to stay organised and compliant.
(Again, this potential client was unhappy that they had received points for late filing)

Bookkeeping can help you attract investors and lenders.
(Whilst this potential client wasn't seeking funding at the moment, it is something he was looking into for future projects)

I could go on and on with this subject and even bring MTD (Making Tax Digital) into it, but you get the point of this post.

Bookkeeping is an essential part of ant successful business!
