World Animal Day Fact 2:
🌊 Did you know? The barrel jellyfish, native to Cornwall, is one of the largest jellyfish in Britain! 🐙 With its beautiful, translucent, mushroom-shaped bell and frilly tentacles, it can grow up to 90 cm wide and weigh as much as 35 kg! 😮
These gentle giants are often seen floating in the sea in large groups or washed up on our shores, especially from May to October. You might also spot other fascinating species like the moon jellyfish, compass jellyfish, and blue jellyfish while enjoying our stunning coastline! 🌊✨
Read more about the barrell jelly by following the link here:
Barrel jellyfish | Cornwall Wildlife Trust Giants of the jellyfish world, these incredible creatures are the UK’s largest jellyfish! They can grow to the size of dustbin lids – giving them their other common name: dustbin-lid jellyfish.
WORLD ANIMAL DAY 2024 🐾
🐬 Did you know that Cornwall is home to some of the most popular wildlife attractions? With an incredible 1,086 km of stunning coastline, you can spot not just seals, but also seagulls, dolphins, and even sharks! 🌊✨
Cornwall is home to two seal species: the playful grey seal and the adorable common seal, also known as harbour seals. Common seals, known for their distinctive spotted coats and relatively social behaviour, are often spotted lounging on rocky shores or sandy beaches. 🦭
While these seals can be quite friendly and curious around humans, remember they are strong animals and can become defensive if they feel threatened. It's best to admire them from a safe distance and never feed them—these amazing creatures can catch their own meals just fine!
Seals are a year-round delight in Cornwall! These non-migratory animals, especially our local common seals, often stick close to their birthplace. You’ve likely spotted our resident seals in the St Austell Bay!🐚💙
It's National Poetry Day in the UK! Celebrated every year on the first Thursday of October, this day is all about celebrating the beauty of poetry. This year's theme is "counting."
To celebrate, we challenged some of our instructors to find some fantastic poems to share alongside our activities.
Check out some of these incredible pieces:
📜 "The Beach Poem" by Srijoni Chakraborty
📜 "The Very Best Climber" by Barbara Vance
📜 "Laser Tag Poem" by Dashaun Rashod Snipes
📜 "Standing on the Water" by Brian Farley
📜 "The Fine Art of Axe Throwing" by JD Maxwell”
Do you have a favourite poem?
A quick run down ahead of our Adventure Festival tomorrow.
Gates open 10am, all activities are payable through tokens which will be available to purchase on the day. The tokens can also be used in our pop up cafe, which will be serving pasties, burgers, cakes and drinks between 11am - 3pm (vegan & vegetarian options available).
Activities available are Caving, Arts and Crafts, Laser Tag, High Ropes, Climbing, Archery, Axe throwing and Bushcraft and Silent Disco. Participants need to be ages 5+ to take part.
50% of our profits from the day will go to the Children's Hospice South West, so come along, have some fun and support a brilliant charity.
