Spotlight on our own Alan O'Neill 🙂

✨ Following the success of last month's fantastic Robot Wars event, we're spotlighting one of this year's organisers Computing Lecturer Alan O'Neill! ✨

Alan started his D&A career in 2000 after over two decades of experience in the military, proving it's always possible to make a total career switch and embark on new journeys. 💪

Robot Wars was awesome this year 🤖💥! Well done to all the Certificate in Computing students who took part! 👏

It's been a week since our 2024 Games Jam took place and team Soup Club came out on top at first place! 🕹️🏆

Over the two days, D&A computing students were challenged to put their creative and technical skills to the test and create the best video game to the theme 'it's not a glitch, it's a feature'.

Shoutout to our former students who were on-hand to offer advice and technical help to the students, and games industry professionals including Ninja Kiwi who judged and sponsored the event!

A big well done to all involved! 👏

It's a wrap! 🎬

It's been a busy year! And a successful one!

Let's look back at some of the events we've been doing throughout this year!

Starting with a retro games competition, where some of the younger students experienced gaming from the golden age, cassettes included! 📼

Later in the Autumn 🍂the Certificate in Computing with Esports students organised an ESports competition in the department, which was fantastically organised and well received by everyone! 🎮🕹️

As the dark days of January came around, we had our annual Game Jam Teams of student worked for 2 days on games covering the theme "Alone", developing industry skills along the way. With imagination and plenty of Pizza 🍕we had some amazing entries!

The industry judges had a tough time making their decisions! 🥇🥈🥉

As the goes on, we look forward to the Certificate in Computing Project time. This year the Certificate in Computing with Cyber Security participated in Robot Wars with the theme of super heroes. This was a lot of fun and hosted by George McAteer! 🤖🦾

Then we had our first large scale ESports Competition, held at the Gardyne Theatre. The esports students put on an outstanding and very entertaining esports competition. 🎮

Finally, our student awards and showcase, where we took some time to recognise the hard work of the students throughout the year. 🥇

The showcase demonstrated various very entertaining Computer Games, an AI robot that followed people around, a cleverly put together AI assistant/chat bot and demos of Cyber projects. 👏🏻

So that's just about that! As we get ready for a well earned holiday, we'll be back again bigger and better next year! Big thanks to all the staff and students this year! 🙏👏🏻

The Certificate in Computing Students have been impressing everyone with their end of year projects!

The Cyber classes held the annual Robot Wars event last Thursday, showing off their programming and building skills and today we've had an esports competition organised and managed by the esports classes! We're super impressed by all the work they've put into this! 👏

Big thanks to Curriculum and Quality Leader George McAteer who was looking the part for both events! 🙏

The students have done an amazing job and staff are all looking very proud today! 🏆

The D&A Game Jam is underway, the theme chosen by vote from a selection is "Alone". Looking forward to seeing how things develop!

The annual Game Jam returns Thurs 19th and Fri 20th of January! Great way to start the new year! Excited to be back on Campus and making games! Delighted to be supported by Ninja Kiwi, Blackadders and Irn Bru!

Esports Society

We have a very exciting opportunity to set up the first Esports Society in a Scottish College. With amazing sponsorship from Corsair, a dedicated gaming space, and lots of opportunities to get involved at whatever level suits you!!

This will be open to students and staff with the first events starting in January!
