Cllr Stef Bristow - an Independent voice for Sutton
Independent elected member for Town and District Councils, representing Sutton on Sea (south) ward.
Anyone for tennis?
As part of their commitment to provide a replacement MUGA pitch at Sutton on Sea playing fields, East Lindsey District Council are looking to also provide facilities for other sports.
In addition to Sutton Rovers football club there has been substantial interest lately in walking football, walking rugby and walking netball - all great activities for those of us whose running days may be over but still want to keep fit.
An all-weather tennis court is also under consideration but we are uncertain about the level of demand for one locally.
And so I am trying to find out if there are people out there who would like to play tennis but also would be prepared to get involved with organizing and running the new facility.
Please get in touch with me in any manner if you are interested in this or for any other information.
Also please think of others you know who might be interested and share this post.

Future of children’s services at Pilgrim Hospital decided (shared from the weekly ELDC members bulletin)
The Board of Lincolnshire ICB has made a final decision on the future of the children’s (paediatric) service at Pilgrim Hospital Boston, following a recent 12 week public consultation.
After overwhelmingly positive public feedback that the current service model meets the needs of the local population, the decision was made to make this the permanent arrangement, providing security for patients, families and staff in Boston and the surrounding area.
This decision follows significant challenges in the paediatric service over a number of years, which resulted in temporarily reducing the service from a full children’s ward to a short-stay (12-hour) Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU) in 2018.
Now, five years on, improved staff recruitment and new ways of working have meant that that the hospital can offer a full Children’s Unit, which is an example of best practice, offering early assessment and enabling us to care for the majority of Boston-area children at the hospital.
A public consultation was run between Monday 12 June 2023 and Monday 4 September 2023, asking whether this current model of care should be made permanent.
Director of Strategic Planning, Integration and Partnerships at Lincolnshire ICB, Pete Burnett, said: “We have reviewed the results of the public consultation, and we were pleased to see that there was overwhelming support for making this service model permanent. This means that there is renewed certainty about the provision of children’s care in the Boston area for the future.
“This is a real success story, as this service was really struggling five years ago, and through the efforts of teams at the hospital, supported by patients and families, we have managed to deliver a much improved service for people in the area.”
The current model of care:
Retains a rapid assessment and discharge profile
Allows for patients to complete their full stay at Pilgrim hospital unless transfer is clinically necessary
Delivers a reduced length of stay, which has resulted in very few children needing to transfer from the hospital, with the exception of those children following specific specialist pathways (which was always the case)
Offers quick access to paediatric care for children accessing the Emergency Department
Has high levels of family satisfaction and a low level of complaints.
Has most recently been rated by the CQC as ‘Good’.
Happy that Robert and I could lend our support!
Sutton on Sea Councillors Stef Bristow and Robert Watson joined together to award Sutton on Sea Residents Association £1000. This will contribute towards the running costs of Sutton on Sea Christmas Fayre.
A spokesperson for the association said: "The Sutton on Sea Residents' Associations Christmas Fayre will be held from 12noon until 7pm on Friday 8th December on and around Sutton on Sea High Street. The committee are really grateful for the contribution made by Councillors Watson and Bristow which will cover some of the costs incurred in getting such an event on.
"The event itself has an array of commercial and charity stalls offering an array of potential Christmas presents and entertainment for the whole family. There are free children's rides, singing, dancing, a plethora of seasonal food and drink venues, a parade of Christmas lights and a whole lot more for the community of Sutton on Sea to come together and celebrate Christmas, not forgetting the appearance of the main man himself."
The Christmas Fayre is just one of the many events the association put together for Sutton on Sea, others include the popular Furlongs Festival, Halloween party, Scarecrow trail, auction nights and whole load more.
SOS public meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every month at the Bacchus Hotel for those who want to pop along and see what else they do.
Disappointed to say the least!
Important update – drop-in events have been cancelled for the 1st and 7th at Theddlethorpe Village Hall and Withern Village Hall. The decision is due to circumstances beyond our control. Sorry for any inconvenience. If you had planned to attend the events, you can still contact us and have a telephone conversation with one of the team. We can offer you other ways to speak to us. https://ow.ly/rJ4x50QbuFO Withern with Stain, East Lindsey
Note for anyone planning to attend Lincs County Cllr Colin Matthews surgery on Friday- he’s having to cancel it due to rearranged meetings.
I am at the Meridale on Friday though, if you want to pop by!
Looks great! Thank you for sharing this, Robert!

This is good news for those it applies to!
For the first time ever next month, women will be able to get the pill from their local pharmacy without needing to contact their GP first — part of the launch of new and expanded community pharmacy services so people can access the help and care they need more conveniently.
From December, this will mean more options for women, more blood pressure checks reducing the risks of people suffering heart attacks and strokes and easier access to medicines for common conditions.
All helping to free up GP appointments.
A pleasure to discuss this positive step forward with Sukhi Basra and her team at the Clinichem Pharmacy.
Here’s an official update for everyone on the Colonnade! 👍🏻
📢 Sutton on Sea Colonnade Update 📢
Enabling works started at the Colonnade site in September, which included the er****on of site cabins, boundary fencing and preparatory work including some demolitions and below ground surveys.
Throughout this period the Council has been working with the Environment Agency to ensure that the sea defence wall remains fully protected and functional during and following the construction process. We appreciate that this period of reduced on-site activity may have been frustrating for residents, but this vital work has formed a crucial part of the scheme.
Work with the Environment Agency has now successfully concluded, and over the coming weeks there will be an increase in activity on site, initially around the sea defence wall. In the New Year work will continue, including bulk earth works, piling and drainage, with the installation of steel frame of the building, planned to commence in the Spring.
We thank everyone for their patience and support with the project, and we will keep people updated as it continues to progress.
Important!
Happy to help support the Sutton On sea Gardening Group who keep our village looking amazing and colourful, no matter the season. Well done to all the volunteers!
Communities across the country will pause today and remember all those around the world who have lost their lives during conflict.
Please join us at 11am today, from wherever you are, for two minutes of silence to remember.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
.
Great to see the East Lindsey District Council’s Pride in East Lindsey team getting Sutton’s War Memorial tidied up before the services this weekend.
It was great being a part of this conference today and to hear the fantastic ideas shared about how we can explore and improve our village for both residents and our visitors.
Looking forward to seeing some of the ideas become reality!
Several organisations spoke today, in addition to Beachcare, including SELCAP, Visit Lincolnshire, PECT - Creating Sustainable Places, and others. Please check out their pages and let me know if you want any more info.
On Friday, I attended a Community summit chaired by our MP Victoria Atkins. The first session was focussed on young people and the second on adults, discussing support available in the community. Delegates from across the public, private, and charitable sectors attended.
I was awestruck at the sheer number of voluntary organisations who keep the heart of our communities beating in spite of rising costs and slashed funding. Without these organisations and the people who volunteer for them, we’d be scuppered!
Thank you to each and everyone of you!
And if you were planning to attend a fireworks event this weekend, best to check if it’s still on. I’m hearing some are cancelled. Stay safe out there!
It’s important to remember that not all of us enjoy fireworks at this time of year. Fireworks can easily scare your pets, and they could try to run away if they are outside. Here’s what we recommend to keep your furry friends happy and safe:
• Close the curtains and blinds where possible to keep flashes away.
• Give your cat/dog a treat or meal to focus on.
• Avoiding letting dogs and cats outside – this makes them more likely to be spooked by the fireworks and attempt to get away.
• Stay with your pet to keep them reassured – avoid leaving them in another room, especially if the door is closed. Feeling trapped can cause them to panic more than usual.
• Keep doors, windows and cat-flaps closed so your pets cannot run away too far if they get scared.
• Playing music can help to calm your pet and cover the loud firework noises, but don’t turn it up too loud. Classical music is a good choice!

Are you looking to speak to your Lincolnshire County Councillor Colin Matthews?
He’s advised me he’ll be at the Bacchus Hotel tomorrow (Friday) at 11:15am for the public to drop in.
I’ll let you know about future dates once I hear of them.
Please note Robert is in the shop tomorrow and I am at a summit with our MP but the Town Councillors will be at the Meridale 10-12pm tomorrow; please see Robert at the shop if you have an urgent District Council concern!
Colonnade Update!
You may have noticed the contractors are back on site; the EA have verbally approved the next step in the design and we’re back on track whilst awaiting the signed permit.
Thank you to all involved in pushing this forward, we’re very excited to see the upcoming developments!
Robert Watson is back in town too, and will be your Meridale point person for the next several Fridays as I have various Friday commitments this month.
Goats love pumpkins! Consider donating yours to Hensell Goat Rescue!
If you’re going to throw away your pumpkins after Halloween, remember that they belong in your general waste bin, rather than your garden waste bin. Alternatively, you could break it up into smaller pieces and add it to the compost, but only if you didn’t paint your pumpkin to decorate it!
If your property has been affected by the recent floods, please follow this advice:
- Take photographs of any damage if it is safe to do so - to provide to your insurance company
Before you attempt to switch anything back on again;
- Get your electric meter checked by the electricity transmission company and your fuse box and electrical sockets checked by an electrician
- Before you drink tap water check that it is now safe to drink with Anglian Water, if in doubt boil water first or use bottled water.
- Before you use gas appliances get a Gas Safe Engineer to check to ensure they are safe.
Be aware of the health effects caused by a flood. When cleaning up wear appropriate clothing and protection as flood water can be contaminated with harmful bacteria.
Be mindful of how the stress and traumatic feelings of personal loss can have an impact on your own and the mental wellbeing of others.

Sandilands steps update
I understand from an officer that the staircase will be replaced in time for Good Friday, which is early this year at the end of March. The new staircase will be made of precast concrete and should last a lot longer than the timber did. I’ll keep you posted if I hear any updates to this information!
