The wonderful collection of trees and shrubs at Benmore provide a backdrop for another group of plants that are much less imposing but no less beautiful and important. Carpeting much of the ground, the rocks and the trees is an abundance of mosses and liverworts, over 200 different native species that thrive in Benmore’s oceanic climate. This walk, on National Moss Day, will introduce you to this elfin world and to some of the species that are part of Scotland’s internationally important moss and liverwort flora. The gentle stroll round the gardens will be led by local enthusiast Gordon Rothero.

Our Tearoom offers a wide selection of teas, coffee, home baking, light meals, snacks, and ice creams, using the best local and West-Highland ingredients.
The cakes, scones, sandwiches, and soups we offer are made fresh daily in the castle.
Our other menu items include Mull cheddars, beers from Fyne Ales, and locally caught seafood from our neighbour, the world-renowned Loch Fyne Oysters.
The Tearoom is open from 10:00 - 16:00 Thursday to Monday (16:30 for takeaway), and no castle entry ticket is required!
