Torpedoes
Gothic, post-punk UK band. New album Black Museum reviewed by Vive Le Rock/Louder Than War
R.I.P Geordie. One of my favourite guitarists.
End of an era. Unique. Irreplaceable.
Oooeeerrrr...
Oooeeerrrr... X 3
Oooeeerrrr... etc.
Thank you Ashfordia.. that was lovely..
Coachworks Ashford, Ashford Gigs, Fate the juggler, The Rec....
Don't give yourselves to these unnatural men.
Machine men with machine minds and machine hearts!
You are not machines!
You are not cattle!
You are men!
A fine time was had at Langhams Festival on Saturday, playing a virtually new set and working our way through the excellent beer menu.
Here we are with Ana, who plays violin on the new album. Don't worry, we're not turning into ELO or anything, although she wisely decided not to join such incompetent amateurs on stage.
Even a certain Tony 'Lazarus' Rollinson made a surprise appearance.
The whole gang back together again. As it should be.
Cheers to Langham Brewery for having us back. Some people never learn!
We shall be playing here, Petworth, West Sussex, this Saturday. We're on at....er....some point during the day. It has nothing to do with the fact it's a brewery. Absolutely nothing at all.
Since I was a small schoolboy, my favourite band has always been (and always will be) The Damned. So sad to hear of the passing of Algy Ward, bassist on arguably their finest album Machine Gun Etiquette. The intro to Love Song will no doubt reverberate for ever. Cheers for that. RIP.
So, this weekend we finally finished recording the new album. Just the mixing to go now.
I think the legendary Paul Windsor captures our unbridled joy quite nicely in this photo.
Special thanks to Ana who came in and provided some fine violin.
A proper musician, with music and everything... ("I notice you go down to the Am7th on the second movement rather than the D natural...") "Er...you carry on, I'm going to the pub!"
You can see us, with or without strings, on July 7th Railway, Wi******er, Aug 12th Langham Festival, Petworth or Sept 15th Coachworks, Ashford....if you really want to.
It certainly was an interesting Friday evening in Hastings, aided and abetted by the odd shandy. Don't you just love Bank Holidays? If you do find yourself down that way in the future, pop in to the Carlisle. Great little venue, the likes of which seem to be dying out these days. Cheers Craig.
Then it was back in the studio for two days. A fine weekends work.
Oh, and thanks to Lee London who sent us these photos from the night. Well done Sir.
This. Tomorrow. Carlisle, Hastings.
Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside....
Due to a family illness, we won't be playing Wi******er this Saturday. So, you two will have to stay in now and watch 'Masked dancer singing on Ice in the Jungle'...or whatever sh*te keeps the nation comotose these days.
Or get yourself down to The Railway anyway and watch the other bands??
Hopefully, we'll be up and running again for The Carlisle, Hastings on April 7th.....
Viel Liebe.
So, New Year and back in the studio with Jonny Callender at the controls, song 23 now. It's finally starting to come together.
I know both our fans are waiting in eager anticipation....especially a Mrs Trellis of North Wales, who writes, "Hurry up, you soft Southern tossers!" Wise words indeed.
In the meantime we will be playing The Railway, Wi******er, Saturday March 18th and The Carlisle, Hastings, Friday 7th April.
More soon.
Farewell to the Grandad of punk. The man played with the timing of a drum machine. Time to give Black and White a spin I think. RIP.
Good night last night at the St Moritz in London.
Legend has it, this was Lemmy's favourite hang out. And I can see why. Dark, dingy, dodgy basement venue, just as we like it.
Cheers to everyone who turned up and the other bands who were thoroughly decent chaps. It must have been good. My ears are still ringing. We must do it again soon.
Anyone thinking of coming to this tomorrow, some punters will be training it from Pompey (whilst they're not on strike) if you need
travel companions. Just look out for the strange ones.
Whether we'll catch the one back is another thing.....
Recently, I got kicked off FB. No idea why. I only mentioned Brian May (We will block you??). Who knows?
Anyway, now re-instated, Torpedoes will be playing this.
Friday 11th November, St Moritz Club, Wardour Street, London.
A chance to do some early Xmas shopping? And at £7 to get in it's cheaper than heating your house for the evening....
We are at Jonny Callender’s Studio mixing
This Sunday, September 18th, we will be playing The Carlisle, Hastings. A minutes silence will be observed and we'll be dressed in black.
It's a little known fact The Queen was a big Torpedoes fan. We were supposed to play on top of Buck House a few years back until badger saving, wife lookalike Brian May beat us to it.
Still, as his bandmate Freddie said "The show must go on...."
Free to get in and the next day off. What more do you want? A lift probably.....
On Thursday I was in Dartmouth, just finishing off a Madras in the local curry house when the news broke of the Queen's passing.
Shocked regulars reliably informed me this is where she first met The Duke of Edinburgh (not in the curry house....in Dartmouth).
Outside the church, bells tolled as we raised a large Scotch to the old Queen. Very poignant.
I've never had much truck with politicians, having never voted for any of the (mostly) hypocritical, self serving careerists.
But I willl admit, no one steered the good ship Britannia better than Queenie. Let's hope we see her like again.
How are we celebrating the Jubilee? Recording song number 22 for our new album, that's what. So thanks your Maj for the time off work. We did raise a (crate of) beer and smoked the odd cigar. And, no doubt get to the pub later and have a go on the bouncy castle, followed by a celebration of the old Raj with a ruby. Hmmm, we should do this more often...

TORPEDOES Song For Europe 2018 From the album 'Black Museum' 2018
Here's a live recording of Gas Chamber from the gig at The Wedge back in August. There should be a compilation coming out, sometime in the New Year, with all the bands who took part on it.
So more about that later. Special thanks to Steve Cook for the mixing. We owe you a drink. Not that you'll get it mind....
Is this too many effects pedals?
A great cover of Killing Moon from our friends Picnic Checklist. Check out the rest of their stuff if you have folky leanings... https://fb.watch/8-rE3rwmB8/
Well. the sun did come out for our gig at The Bandstand on Southsea seafront. A fine afternoons entertainment. Well done to all the bands and for the great organisation. Even got a bit of a sun tan. Not very Goth I know. Here we are in the shadows.
On another note. What with Brexit, Covid and now the fuel crisis, Torpedoes merchandise is running low. Please do not panic buy our records, CDs and T shirts. If you just buy normally there will be enough to go round...
I haven't said too much about this, as we've been watching the weather ; but all going well and if we've got enough petrol to get there, this should be happening tomorrow. Starts at 1pm, we should be on at 1.45pm. No idea what we're going to play yet. As usual....
Studio time
You can always tell how bad my hangover is by how long it takes me to put a post up. From Victorious festival, Sunday. I only went down to see Fontaines DC. I think it was very good.
It was fun in the sticks on Saturday at Langhams Festival. Even though we were out of our comfort zone. There was horses, people in wellies, that sort of thing, although we seemed to go down well.
Elvis was ok though, being a bit of a carrot cruncher and the beer was superb. Quite a few new songs got a debut and the sun even came out. We should do more of these!
Cheers to everyone involved.
Do you like fine ales? Do you like quality Indian cuisine? Do you like watching four blokes in black stumbling through some newly written songs after one too many? Well, tomorrow, this could be the place for you. Langham's festival, near Petworth. Starts at 1pm.....we're on between 5-6. After signing autographs, interviews and solving world conflicts, we'll be off to the local Indian. I would say join us, but no doubt you would want a starter and a bottle of wine and the bill would get awfully messy. So, no, just the gig. And it's free entry!
Great day yesterday at The Wedgewood Rooms for the South Specific gig. Loads of great music and lots of people we haven't seen for ages. It doesn't seem two years since we last played here.
Didn't quite make it to the end, after sampling a bit too much of the Czech beer, but staggered home on a high.
Well done to all the bands, everyone who turned up and The Wedge and Brainbooster for putting it together. Tremendous stuff.
Playing this tomorrow. Shirley's first gig with us. Our first in ages. Let's see if we can remember the songs. Might do something new.
On early...around 5. Not sure why, but saw a memo from the Wedge..."Get Torpedoes down early..they drink their body weight."
No wonder Geoff's always pleased to see us. It will no doubt be celebratory and a bit strange at the same time. Hopefully see some people we haven't seen in a long time. No tongues please...
Pushing the boundaries of music in the studio again!
