Are you familiar with the 3D braid and have you ever use it to create a messy bun? to this 💕💙💕 2 ponytails, each with 2 3D braids, that were French Rope Twisted,pinned to the opposite side to create the low bun and pancaked for texture💕💙💕 Definitely one of my many favourites 😅 how do you like to do yours? I've been styling hair for over 10 years. After training at Aveda in High Holborn and cult salon, Cuts in London’s Soho (now the subject of a docu-film), I made the move to freelance, assisting high profile names incuding Johnnie Sapong and Rita Ora’s personal hairstylist Chris Appleton, while creating work for House of Holland, Adidas, J W Anderson and Meadham Kirchoff to name but a few. More recently, I have become known for my braiding skills working on projects for Harvey Nichols, Wavey Garms, House of Fraser, Liberty London and Nike, plus a number of pop-up events across London. I’ve taken my master-braiding skills to Pennard Orchard boutique camping site adjacent to Glastonbury and various other festivals as well as creating a high-profile hair salon collaboration with Josh Wood, who I launched a braiding bar in Shoreditch with. In addition to this, I’ve been brand ambassador to Selfridges and Umberto Giannini where my role as Guest Educational Hairstylist consisted of practically educating and demonstrating braiding techniques to the Umberto staff and public with various Master Classes ran during Selfridges #LiveandLoud festival. Another project of mine that has allowed me to engage and help the public get better at braiding are the numerous public and professional braiding workshops I’ve ran . My sold out workshops called Creative Tangles with @HairbyJoel were in collaboration with and hosted at The Hoxton Shoreditch Hotel, we taught guests The 3 Strand Dutch, French and French Waterfall braid. Participants were provided with an interactive step-by-step syllabus I created which is also material for the braiding short courses I'll be teaching at London College of Fashion this Summer.
I'm also very active on social media, and currently had an Instagram project - #100BraidsofHappy - that has had great press, featuring in Emerald Street, Cosmopolitan Magazine and TimeOut. The project sees me create a unique style of braid each day for 100 days and in conjunction with my new #in2laced and other planned projects, is a great platform to promote what I do.
I'm always working to make each hairstyle better than the last and each one bespoke, as I love the creativity hair gives me. I love what I do, aim to be the best in my field. I like working with like-minded creatives, looking to push the boundaries themselves and stay ahead of the curve.
