"AWARENESS OF FIRST AID FOR MENTAL HEALTH" WORKSHOPS - UPDATE:

The first workshop is on Saturday 5th Sept and we still have several places available! There are also places on the Blair Atholl, Pitlochry and Aberfeldy workshops. Places are free to participants and funded by the Enchanted Forest Community Fund. See dates and venues below...
Contact us via FB messenger or email [email protected]

With the generous support of the Enchanted Forest Community Trust, MoulinBurn Partnership are delighted to offer four half-day ‘Awareness of First Aid For Mental Health’ workshops, for residents of Highland Perthshire.
Venues are being identified in Pitlochry, Blair Atholl, Dunkeld and Aberfeldy and each workshop will run from 9.30-13.30 on Saturdays in Sept/Oct, with exact dates and number of participants being finalised once we have a clearer picture of Government regulations regarding social distancing, how many people can meet indoors, etc.
There’s always been, and always will be, a need for people to have a greater understanding of ‘Mental Health’ and ‘Mental Health issues’, and the likelihood is that there’s an even greater need given the impact of Covid-19 on our lives. The workshop is being provided (free of charge) for residents of communities across Highland Perthshire aged 16 years and over, and participants will have the opportunity to gain a SCQF level 4 qualification which has the title ‘Awareness in First Aid for Mental Health’.
The key topics covered are:
• What is First Aid for Mental Health
• Identifying Mental Health Conditions
• Providing Advice and Starting a Conversation
• Stress
• Mental Health Conditions
(PLEASE NOTE, this is a basic awareness workshop and it does not qualify anyone to diagnose a condition.)
If you'd like to register your interest in attending any of these workshops please email [email protected] or send a PM via Facebook.... we will keep your name and be in touch as things develop. The maximum number of participants at each workshop will be 16 and places will be on a first come first served basis.
Hope you are all having a good day! Stevie and I have now set up our new business partnership... so, "Ruth McLaren Consulting" is no more...eek! HOT OFF THE PRESS... GrowBiz win Business Project of the Year 2017 at Scottish Mentoring Network National Recognition Awards!
I'm very proud of GrowBiz for winning yet another national award this year! This time it's for their Mentoring Support Progamme, which also happens to include the mentor training that I co-facilitate along with the very talented Jennifer Lindsay-Finan. My input covers the section on "self-awareness" using the Myers Briggs (MBTI) personality assessment tool. It's been a real privilege to support the GrowBiz Mentors in understanding their own preferences whilst at the same time, gaining an awareness of how their preferred ways of functioning in life may differ completely from the people they may mentor in future!
Congratulations GrowBiz!!
growbiz.co.uk A fantastic testament to our team and the clients we work with.
My thanks to all the participants on yesterday's "Presenting Yourself with Confidence" workshop - Part 2! I hope you felt it was worth coming back for more! Your openness, honesty and willingness to push yourselves made it a real treat to work with you all. Huge thanks too to Deirdre Davis for co-facilitating this pilot workshop and for all the expertise you were able to bring to the event! Last, but by no means least, thanks to GrowBiz Perthshire for inviting us to deliver this workshop on your behalf.... it's great to be part of such a forward-thinking and dynamic organisation!
GrowBiz Perthshire ran a follow-up workshop on Presenting Yourself with Confidence today for clients who had attended a previous workshop. This time, attendees had to face their fears, stand up and give a talk lasting around three minutes. Whilst everyone who took part was game for this, there were nerves all round! However, Ruth McLaren Consulting, ably assisted by actress Deirdre Davis gave such constructive criticism, hints and tips that it is fair to say by the end of the afternoon everyone there, without exception, showed amazing improvement in both their confidence and their delivery of their talks. With great feedback too, we have a feeling this won't be the last time we run such a workshop!

Make-I-do
Turning Dreams into Reality... how many of us spend our lives dreaming about doing something but stopping short at actually making it happen?! Well, the other week I had the pleasure of spending time with one talented lady in her new business premises here in Pitlochry who has done just that! Take a look at the Make-I-Do page below and you'll see what Elaine is up to! Better still, you can support the launch of her new business on Sunday 24th April at the Atholl Palace Hotel's Wedding Fayre. It's been wonderful to watch Elaine take her natural talent and creativity and turn it into a fantastic business venture! Step by step she has worked her way through all the loops and hurdles that sometimes can stand in the way and distract us from reaching our goals.... what I think is amazing is that other people will now benefit from Elaine's insights, talent and creativity. So remember, put some realistic goals against these dreams of yours, do a reality check and come up with a set of options... most importantly, ask yourself have you got the will to make it happen and find a way forward?! (Ok, so that was a quick lesson in the G.R.O.W. coaching model!).... very best wishes Elaine for a successful Wedding Fayre on Sunday!
Make-I-do offers a personalised event styling service. Offering a bespoke approach to creating unique décor for a wedding or event with a difference.
At the beginning of September I was privileged to spend 5 inspirational days facilitating a course for cancer patient advocates at the Bart's Cancer Institute, London. The course is a collaboration between the charity, Independent Cancer Patients' Voice, and Bart's. The passion, dedication and commitment of the scientists and researchers to helping the delegates, most of whom have experience of cancer themselves, was truly humbling and inspiring. Even more humbling was the drive and passion of the delegates to learn more about the science behind cancer so that they can better inform the future of cancer research from the patient's perspective. I may have been the Facilitator but I sure did learn lots too (and wish I'd stuck in better in my biology class!).
Great to be back at The Christie School of Oncology in Manchester this week to deliver the Professional Development Programme to NSH staff. Thanks to all 16 delegates for being such willing and interactive participants! Makes my job a whole lot more fun! Thanks too to Shirley in the admin team for all the 'behind the scenes' work that goes into making the whole programme run so smoothly.... couldn't do it without you!

They have been collaborating across the North of England for 5 years to bring together high quality training and personal development opportunities for all their clinical research staff.... they are a great model for what CAN be achieved with a minimal budget, an innovative approach and a huge heart for the development of their staff! I'm proud to be helping facilitate at their anniversary workshops on 14th March... congratulations to all involved! http://www.crncc.nihr.ac.uk/about_us/ccrn/gm/news/news_archive/Northern-Region-Workforce-Development-Anniversary-Workshops
Start the New Year with Confidence!
Happy New Year everyone! Really looking forward to delivering this workshop in Coupar Angus on Tuesday night.... all going well, I hope to develop this mini workshop into a full day event in 2014.
growbiz.co.uk The Women's Enterprise Network meeting in Coupar Angus on Tuesday 7th January is all about 'presenting with confidence' - a mini-workshop by Ruth McLaren for an energetic kick off to 2014.
"Consulting at its best is an act of love: the wish to be genuinely helpful to another...to use what we know, or feel, or have endured in a way that lightens the weight on another" - quote from "Flawless Consulting" by Peter Block. This pretty much sums up why I became a freelance "consultant" 18 months ago. It's such a huge privilege to share my passion for developing people and to watch lots of "light bulbs" go on in people's minds when they engage in personal development opportunities!
