Loughborough Fresh Start For Hens

Thank you to all of today's rehomers (and those collecting tomorrow). 25 lucky hens and 1 very handsome cockerel went off to their new homes.

Today's hens are on their way, after a difficult morning on the farm the hens are unfortunately running about 2 hours behind schedule. We built in some contingency time but if rehomers can arrive at the slightly later time of 6-7pm that would be much appreciated. Thanks for your understanding.

What better way to celebrate summer - add some hens to your flock and give them a happy retirement! Loughborough CP will be open again on the 13th July, hens for this date will be available on the Fresh Start For Hens website over the next few days.

UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who replied to the post. Cookie has gone to stay with a lovely FSFH volunteer with more experience than me, who'll be able to keep an eye on her.

Meet Cookie - she was held back from Saturday's rehome for monitoring as she was struggling to eat and drink. She has no visible tongue and possible injury or deformity to her neck vertebrae, there are no signs of pain and she has full movement, so she's likely to have lived like this for some time (hence the nickname as we think she's a tough cookie). She's also going through a heavy moult.

But she's now ready to find her forever home!

Ideally this would be with someone who has experience of special needs hens, she'll need a high up water feeder to help the water go down, she's fine with pellets and corn but struggles to move mash in her beak. She's got a lovely temperament, is easy to handle, extremely quiet and loves the company of people.

If you can offer her a home the usual FSFH rules apply, we'll need photos of your set up and a minimum donation of £2.75 to FSFH before you can collect.

Our farm team are either on their way or have been enjoying some of the lovely Cornish sites.

Tomorrow will be the first rehome of 2024 with not 1 but 2 farms in Cornwall AND 1 in Cambridgeshire!

The reservations are open for 7 rehome dates spread across February and March with almost 100 collection points open in England and Wales.

Wow - what a day. First rehome from Loughborough and 32 hens have gone to their new forever homes. Thanks to Clive and Deb for delivering then hens, the farm team and the admin team for all their tireless work behind the scenes and most importantly to those rehoming.
