London Young Charity Professionals

Regular networking events for London's young charity professionals & those who are new to the sector! Why was LYCP set up? Who should get involved?

We wanted to create an informal and friendly space where those in the charity sector could get to know like-minded peers. LYCP is a place to share ideas and challenges in a supportive environment and ultimately to have fun meeting new people! Young charity professionals, people who are new to the sector or who are interested in working in the sector. What events do we host? LYCP hosts a free-to-at

Informal Networking Drinks: London Young Charity Professionals RELAUNCH 18/08/2021

Great news - we are restarting events next month!

We'll be kicking off with a free-to-attend drinks at the Big Chill in Kings Cross. We have had lots of sign ups already so there will be a bunch of new friendly faces. Feel free to bring along friend(s) too.

If you know someone who might be interested - whether they are just joining a charity or working in the third sector, or have moved to London and want to meet new people, please do share!

There are limited spaces so do sign up below and follow us on Twitter / LinkedIn / our mailing list for more updates.

Hope to see you there!

Informal Networking Drinks: London Young Charity Professionals RELAUNCH Free-to-attend informal networking drinks with new faces for all for young charity professionals in London. Monthly fixture.

Timeline photos 25/04/2016

We had a really wide range of attendees at our networking drinks last Thursday night, which was excellent to see! young people from lots of different charities and areas of the sector came out in force to network! We had people working with Youth, IT, Fundraising, Events, International Development, Community work, Young Trustees, just to name a few!

We asked the following question to our attendees on Thursday: "Please tell us in your experience what is the best and worst thing about working in the sector." Below are the responses, please do comment on this post and tell us what your 'best' and 'worst' is!

You said:

Best
- the beneficiaries
- contributing to the community
- seeing the positive impact the work you do has on people
- doing something which has an actual purpose
- the passion of people for the cause
- making a difference - my work means something
- the feeling of working every day with people who care about something greater than themselves
- not having to wear a suit
- working with a great bunch of staff and volunteers who make the work day enjoyable!
- the motivated people who work in the sector

Worst
- unpaid internships
- some boards (inefficient/not diverse)
- the perception that working for a charity is 'easy'
- not well paid enough
- bureaucracy and internal processes
- the government effect on charities
- the uncertainty of the sector's place in the modern British political system
- lack of internal career development
- no bonuses or work paid socials
- fewer development opportunities/certifications e.g. Training and courses (professional and academic)
- lack of being able to progress in the sector into better paid roles/roles with more responsibility (especially if you aren't interested in managing staff, but might want to manage a bigger project/volunteers).
