Hugh Jackson Architect RIBA
I aim to make good architecture accessible and planning simple for my clients
RIBA Chartered Architect based in Shropshire providing architecture, design, planning and project management consultancy services across the West Midlands, England & Wales.
Really pleased to receive planning permission for my clients this week for this comprehensive renovation & deep retrofit within the 'Outstanding Universal Value' constraints of the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site and Conservation Area and all within the statutory 8 week period.
While it is fair to say that aesthetic aspirations for some more overtly contemporary features have been tempered this has been the result of a pro-active & pragmatic pre-application & post-application discussion & negotiation with an engaged client & a responsive local authority planning & building heritage team.
Meanwhile the client's fundamental priority for a modern, energy efficient home using air source heating, sustainable & breathable lime masonry construction, and including accessible features, that will allow them to downsize, but importantly remain within their existing community is a massive step closer.
All go in the Ironbridge Gorge.
Work on site converting a dilapidated & damp conservatory into a comfortable living room is well underway down at the bottom of the gorge and planning permission was granted today for a renovation and deep retrofit of an existing cottage up on the hillside.
Guy Nicholls RIP 15th December 2023
If you are not already aware Guy passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on 15th December.
His wife Jane and family have asked me and others to let people who worked with or knew Guy know of his passing and details of his funeral should you wish to attend.
I worked with Guy at British Waterways and Panton Sargent but know that his network spread far beyond that.
Funeral details are: Tuesday 16th January 10.20

It's a non-religious service and when I spoke to Jane before Christmas it will be true to Guy's character rather than very formal.
If you have not been contacted directly Jane has asked if people could let her know if they want to attend the wake as she is trying to how many they will need to cater for at the end of this week.
I'm happy to pass that on to Jane if you can let me know by Direct Message or below.
I was in the area and got the chance to take a quick picture of the living roof laid in the late spring (see the sunny photos) that seems to be nicely settling in.
As the roof is visible from the pavement and street this is huge improvement (visually and in terms of biodiversity) over the bituminous felt it replaces.
This was the second phase of a project giving external coherence & improve the internal qualities of a couple of awkward '60s & '70s extensions to a Grade II listed building in the
Clients are on site in the shire and well under way with their extension to a cottage
