Back in March I got injured at football training - Iโ€™d only been back playing for around eight months and was loving it! โšฝ๏ธ

I was told by A+E Iโ€™d suffered a nasty sprain to my big toe, to rest it for a couple of days to reduce the swelling and to get back to normal.

A+E got it wrong. โŒ

Turns out it was badly dislocated and needed surgery, under general anaesthetic, to drill a wire through it and repair the damage โ€ฆ and that happened just a couple of weeks before I was due to get married. ๐Ÿคฏ

So not only was my football season over - and I couldnโ€™t walk, drive or work - but I was also in the dog house with the wife-to-be! ๐Ÿซ 

Pre-injury I was probably the fittest I had ever been. I was training for football twice a week, playing football once, and was in the gym four times. I was working every day. My clients were happy - I was happy.

I felt AMAZING. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ

And then it all came crashing down.

I was given a special shoe to wear to help me get around the house - whilst taking the weight off my newly-pinned toe - but I was effectively left housebound and I couldnโ€™t walk, train or work. ๐Ÿ˜ก

My fitness took the hit - mentally my brain took an even bigger one. It was a pretty soul-destroying time at what should have been one of the happiest. ๐Ÿ˜”

But โ€ฆ three months later:

The special shoe is now where it belongs โ€ฆ in the bin โœ”๏ธ

Iโ€™m about to start physio with the hope that after some intensive rehab Iโ€™ll be back on the football pitch before long โœ”๏ธ

And Iโ€™m slowly, but surely, getting back to work โ€ฆ โœ”๏ธ

Goals โ€ฆ like people they come in all shapes and sizes! ๐Ÿ•บ

You can also flex your goals depending on your timescale - I like to mix it up between short, medium and long term goals! ๐Ÿ“†

My goals:

๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿฝโ€โ™‚๏ธ SQUAT, BENCH + DEADLIFT

In 2019 I hit my PBโ€™s on the above ๐Ÿ‘†

Squat: 187.5kg
Bench: 120kg
Deadlift: 202.5kg

BUT โ€ฆ

I then went travelling for a year and a half and didnโ€™t really do any strength training.

Turns out freedom camping, sunbathing, swimming in the sea and drinking the fine selection of ale New Zealand has to offer didnโ€™t stand me in good order when I got back!

To get back to that level of strength - and reach those goals - itโ€™s taken a lot longer than expected (cheers Covid, closed gyms, a dodgy thyroid and a torn hamstring!)โ˜ ๏ธ

But Iโ€™ve defined a return to that strength as my goal - and I WILL get there and, hopefully, surpass the line in the sand Iโ€™d reached before! โœŒ๐Ÿผ
