Back in March I got injured at football training - Iโd only been back playing for around eight months and was loving it! โฝ๏ธ
I was told by A+E Iโd suffered a nasty sprain to my big toe, to rest it for a couple of days to reduce the swelling and to get back to normal.
A+E got it wrong. โ
Turns out it was badly dislocated and needed surgery, under general anaesthetic, to drill a wire through it and repair the damage โฆ and that happened just a couple of weeks before I was due to get married. ๐คฏ
So not only was my football season over - and I couldnโt walk, drive or work - but I was also in the dog house with the wife-to-be! ๐ซ
Pre-injury I was probably the fittest I had ever been. I was training for football twice a week, playing football once, and was in the gym four times. I was working every day. My clients were happy - I was happy.
I felt AMAZING. ๐ช๐ผ
And then it all came crashing down.
I was given a special shoe to wear to help me get around the house - whilst taking the weight off my newly-pinned toe - but I was effectively left housebound and I couldnโt walk, train or work. ๐ก
My fitness took the hit - mentally my brain took an even bigger one. It was a pretty soul-destroying time at what should have been one of the happiest. ๐
But โฆ three months later:
The special shoe is now where it belongs โฆ in the bin โ๏ธ
Iโm about to start physio with the hope that after some intensive rehab Iโll be back on the football pitch before long โ๏ธ
And Iโm slowly, but surely, getting back to work โฆ โ๏ธ

What a first season back at football after 10 years out!
- League winners ๐ฅ
- Unbeaten season ๐ช๐ป
- Over 100 goal difference ๐ฏ
Managed to get 14 starts before it went a little pear shaped for me! ๐
Dislocated toe which got missed by A&E resulting in an operation to fix it with a metal wire hanging out of my toe ๐คฎ

What do I mean by this? To put it simply, if youโre getting weaker whilst trying to lose fat then your most likely dieting to fast โ

You can also flex your goals depending on your timescale - I like to mix it up between short, medium and long term goals! ๐
My goals:
๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ SQUAT, BENCH + DEADLIFT
In 2019 I hit my PBโs on the above ๐
Squat: 187.5kg
Bench: 120kg
Deadlift: 202.5kg
BUT โฆ
I then went travelling for a year and a half and didnโt really do any strength training.
Turns out freedom camping, sunbathing, swimming in the sea and drinking the fine selection of ale New Zealand has to offer didnโt stand me in good order when I got back!
To get back to that level of strength - and reach those goals - itโs taken a lot longer than expected (cheers Covid, closed gyms, a dodgy thyroid and a torn hamstring!)โ ๏ธ
But Iโve defined a return to that strength as my goal - and I WILL get there and, hopefully, surpass the line in the sand Iโd reached before! โ๐ผ
