Finally, we’re at a turning point in veterinary nutrition. ✨ Vets are the last group of formally trained medical professionals to still actively (and sometimes aggressively) promote the exclusive feeding of ultra-processed, pelleted food for a lifetime (birth to death), as a means to achieve longterm health. 🥺❓
This incongruent and unorthodox recommendation is a result of our nutrition education during veterinary medical school. As of now, every vet school around the world is endowed by a Big Pet Food brand, so their nutrition curriculum is funded, prepared and executed (taught) by the top (ultra-processed) pet food manufacturers (or faculty funded by them), so our future vets don’t have access to unbiased nutrition information. But our Next Generation vet students are asking more questions 💥; aren’t less processed, fresher foods healthier for all mammals? How does heat and extended, unregulated, storage temps affect added nutrients, flavorings, palatants and additives 🌡️? Where are all the synthetic nutrients coming from, and is anyone regulating safety? In the U.S., there’s no limit on the amount of copper and other minerals in pet food… and what happens when we feed excessive amounts in perpetuity?
While some vet med students may not feel nutrition is relevant to their future (see link in graphic), and some (correctly) feel they aren’t adequately prepared for the job ahead of them, we have a whole new generation of intelligent, inspired, and empowered veterinary students who actually understand all of these issues, and are moving forward with a clear sense of what needs to happen in veterinary hospitals around the world, but also what has to happen in the industry ☄️. The next generation of present-knowledge vets is here… let’s support the heck out of them❣️
Dehydration in dogs becomes a concern when your furry friend loses more fluids than it takes in, affecting crucial bodily functions like joint lubrication, organ cushioning, digestion, and temperature regulation. Water plays a vital role in allowing your dog’s cells to absorb nutrients. While some water loss is normal due to activities like panting and urinating, dehydration can be triggered by insufficient intake, acute vomiting or diarrhoea, heatstroke, illness, or underlying conditions like kidney disease or diabetes. Watch out for signs such as loss of skin elasticity, reduced energy, dry nose, and sunken eyes. To address dehydration, make sure your dog has constant access to fresh water, and consider electrolyte replacement fluids if needed. Persistent symptoms demand immediate veterinary attention for addressing underlying issues. You should of course take preventive measures and adjust water intake based on factors like weather and activity level, and seek personalised veterinary advice based on your dog’s age, weight, and condition.
Before taking your dog out for a walk, use the '7-second rule' to check if the pavement is too hot for their sensitive paws. Here's how:
- Place the back of your hand on the pavement.
- Hold it there for 7 seconds.
- If it's too hot for you, it's definitely too hot for your pup! 🐾
Hot pavement can burn your dog's paws and cause serious injuries. To keep them safe, walk them early in the morning or later in the evening when the ground is cooler. You can also try walking on grass or shaded areas.

Can dogs eat pumpkin? Yes!
We love seasonal fruits and veggies, and it’s the squash season!
Here are the top 3 benefits:
1. Nutrient-rich
Pumpkin is a good source of essential vitamins and minerals, including vitamin A, vitamin C, potassium, and beta-carotene. These nutrients support overall health, contribute to a shiny coat, and bolster the immune system.
2. Digestive health
Pumpkin is rich in dietary fibre, which can help regulate bowel movements. The fibre in pumpkin acts as a natural stool regulator. It can both firm up loose stools and soften hard stools.
3. Weight management
Pumpkin is low in calories and fat, making it an excellent option for dogs that need to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight.
We’re 6 years old! Since 2017, we've been on an incredible journey, making thousands of furry friends healthier, happier, and more active.

Nutritional needs change as dogs age. A puppy's diet differs vastly from a senior dog's. While puppies require diets rich in protein and calcium to support their rapid growth and bone development, seniors need fewer calories and more fibre to maintain a healthy weight and digestive system. Additionally, seniors benefit from joint-supporting nutrients, given the natural wear and tear they've endured over the years. It's essential to adjust their diet as they age, ensuring they receive the right balance of nutrients at every life stage. Always prioritise their nutritional well-being, whether they're bounding pups or graceful golden-agers! 🐾

So today we’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you for your support and kindness over the years, for sharing your experience with our products, telling your friends about us, and calling just to catch up or to say how your pups are doing. Did you know that an average healthy pet should take between 15 to 35 breaths per minute when resting? That will, of course, change while exercising when your pooch will breathe faster. However, anything above 40 breaths per minute while your dog is at rest, is considered abnormal and worth investigating.
Your pet's rapid breathing may be an indication that your pup is suffering from an illness or injury that should be evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible.
If your dog is breathing fast at rest or breathing fast while sleeping, it could be experiencing respiratory distress. Contact your vet if you notice any of the following signs:
- Engaging stomach muscles to help with breathing
- Reluctance to drink, eat or move
- Pale, blue-tinged, or brick red gums
- Uncharacteristic drooling
- Open-mouthed breathing
- Heavy, fast breathing that’s louder or different sounding than normal panting
Benji always gets compliments about how great his coat looks. The secret? A good diet and a daily addition of our Omega supplement. Not only Omega helps to maintain healthy and shiny coat, it also supports healthy joints. Do you add omega oils to your pup’s diet? Let us know in the comments below!
Sweet potatoes have numerous nutritional benefits, which is why they can be a good addition to your dog's diet.
- They are a great source of Vitamin A which provides important support for healthy eyes and vision as well as maintaining healthy skin and coat quality.
- They are high in fibre that can be beneficial to promote a healthy digestive system and proper stool formation.
- They are naturally gluten-free making them suitable for your dogs with grain intolerance/sensitivity.
- They contain high levels of beta-carotene – a precursor of vitamin A and also a strong antioxidant which may have beneficial effects on the immune system and help protect cells from oxidative damage.
- They have a low glycemic index which may be related to the high fibre content which helps to slow down the rate at which the glucose is absorbed into the bloodstream. This means that your pets blood sugar levels are more stable and give a consistent supply of energy throughout the day.
Did you know, Dalmatians are born white and without a single black spot in sight? That doesn't mean they don't have spots - you just can't see them yet! As they grow, the pigmentation will start showing in the fur.
When a Dalmatian is about 2 weeks old, spots will start to show in his coat. From that point on, any hair that grows over a spot of pigmented skin will be dark-coloured.
But it doesn’t stop there! Even though you will see their spots at 4–6 weeks, they are still young and their spots will continue to develop for several months. The most significant changes will be the definition and outline of the spots as well as the strength of colour.
You may be surprised to know that Dalmatians don’t just boast black spots with a white coat. There are a few more colour variations possible, although they are considerably less common.
Spot/Coat colours of Dalmatians:
▪️Black coloured spots with a white coat
▪️Liver coloured spots with a white coat
▪️Blue coloured spots with a white coat
▪️Lemon coloured spots with a white coat
▪️Black & Liver coloured spots with a white coat (tricoloured)
▪️Sable coloured spots with a white coat (only one single Dalmatian known so far)
Wishing all doggos out there a very happy International Dog Day! Today, we are celebrating our best canine companions - without them our hearts and homes would be empty. Give your pup a huge hug from us and an extra treat or two! 🥰
