Lovely note from Stanley and Harry after they came for a look round the farm, and then had a run in the tractor. Thanks to their Mum and Dad for the Cairngorm Brewery refreshments, which will be enjoyed after calving π
Some of our last visitors had never seen proper snow. Although I think that -15 degrees was a bit extreme for them!

Just across the field from Birchbank is our wildflower meadow, that we sowed in the old walled garden. Lot's of good stuff for the birds, the bees and other beastiesπ¦πππͺ³

Our calves are enjoying the warmer weather. Soon be time for them to go outside. Just need the grass to grow.
Happy Monday! Minus 7 but this calf doesn't care. Nice and warm in his bed.
Busy day in the calving sheds, 5 cows calved today and we only had to help one π. Got our big calf from last week to suck his mum. She's still too big and heavy, to stand up for long, so she sucks lying down! Still likes her bottle from Sam too though.
Nice coloured heifer calf out of a Simx cow to finish off the day shift.
We know our visitors like to see calves being born. This young bull calf needed a bit of help into the world last night. One of his legs hadn't come forward, so Sammie had to help me pen the cow and pull the leg straight. It was a pretty easy birth after that.
We have just given him his first feed of colostrum as he's not quite able to stand up yet. It's essential that he gets the colostrum as soon as possible after the birth as it contains antibodies that will protect the young calf from disease.
