✨ Not only have we been teaching the lifesaving skill of swimming for over 30 years we are also an approve STA aquatic training provider.

Please see details on our upcoming STA Level 2 Award for Safety Award for Teachers - just in time for the beginning of the new term 🙂

💦 If you’re a swimming teacher, aqua aerobic instructor or school teacher and looking for a qualification that will allow you to provide safety cover for swimming sessions, this is the qualification for you!

✨In this course, you’ll learn basic rescue, first aid and resuscitation skills, giving you the confidence and knowledge to deal with an emergency during swimming lessons.

💦Interested? Before You Get Started…
You’ll need to make sure you’ve met the following requirements before you attend your course:

Be at least 14 years of age
Be able to swim 25 metres
Learners who cannot swim 25 metres must be capable of wading and effecting a rescue in a pool with a depth no greater than chest height.
Be able to surface dive and recover an object from the deepest part of the pool.

As the weather heats up, it might be tempting to cool off with a dip in the water, but remember the water is colder than it looks, posing risks of cold water shock.

✅ Always swim with a friend at a lifeguarded venue.
✅ Stay within designated swimming areas.
✅ Check the water temperature before you swim.
✅ Wear a wetsuit if the water is chilly.

How do we re-register our child is a question we are often asked. 🏊‍♂️

Courses are usually run in 8-week blocks. On week 6 of each course, you will be notified by text, and payments are then taken automatically from your account, therefore there is no need to reapply for your September place.

Lessons will finish for summer at the end of June and restart in September (Calendar update to be released soon)

It is with the heaviest of hearts that I announce our Swim School founder Des Cossum (my Father) passed away on Sunday the 26th of May 2024.

Des was a true gentleman who had the most incredible passion for teaching the gift of swimming, which was so apparent when teaching and tutoring.

Des gained his STA Graduate Swimming Teachers Certificate in 1973 and taught in pools across Northern Ireland before forming Cossum Swim Schools, which has been teaching children and training the next generation of teachers for over 30 years.

As well as being a teacher he was also qualified as an STA tutor who taught and mentored countless students the skill of becoming a swimming teacher. Many of our teachers today were once Swim School Students who have been mentored by Des over the years.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our team and fantastic students for your continued support, and to reassure you all that nothing within the School will change.

Our office will be closed on Friday for Des’s funeral and we welcome any past or current students to join us in celebrating his life.

Thank you again for your support at this difficult time.
