THIS SATURDAY
With a brush,
that touched no paint,
A pen inked with blood,
Coated with grief,
For the fear is not,
that one might bleed,
but that one continues to breathe,
In a world scarred with images so obscene,
Who attacks people worshiping?
Journalists? Nurses?
Children in the street?
Was Shireen AbuAkleh's voice,
A personal threat to your safety?
Perhaps we should just be quiet,
Is there need to speak?
Adhere to the norm,
Of millions blanketed in debris?
But I started to write.
The light of the day wilted,
But nor was it night,
And nor was it right,
That I write once again about diminished dreams,
That I write once again about lives taken too soon,
Or that I write perhaps at all.
For who am I to speak?
For the millions dreaming to be free?
For the children suffering from disturbed sleep?
For those whom family left home and returned only to the unseen?
For those with shattered dreams?
Scimpered across lands with wounds still yet to heal,
Life still left to see,
Voice still left to scream,
How many tears left to stream?
Refugees seeking to just ... be
Refusing to flee.
Wondering, and wandering.
Drowning in thoughts.
Children washing up,
On washed up shores.
Just podcast content,
Whilst doing the chores,
As I wander and wonder.
Is this ... war?
Thoughts of families unable to sleep,
Little children hearing sirens,
And trying not to scream,
Hunger and PTSD,
Just common commodities,
And yet the headlines still read,
In a manner that beggars belief,
With words like 'conflict' and 'clashes',
Can they not see?
This. is. not. war.
It's terror...
Rotten to its core.
“It might not be easy to change the reality but at least I could bring their voice to the world."🇵🇸✊🏽

HAPPENING ONLINE TOMORROW!
We are delighted to be collaborating with ICSM Psychiatry Society for Part 2 of this series.
‘Rebuilding lives’ is a focus on Gaza’s Mental Health crisis based on recent military bombardments on top of the pre-existing trauma from decades of violence, in a community already crushed by economic blockade. The mental trauma of fearing for your life, of seeing your home in ruins and of the financial hardship forms a constant for inhabitants of the world’s largest open air prison. The head of mental health services in Palestine once said her people do not suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder because their trauma is ongoing; “present-traumatic stress disorder may be a more fitting description of their experience.”
Part 2 brings you stories of those at the frontlines from both the heart of Gaza and abroad. We are delighted to be inviting the current director of the Gaza Community Mental Health Programme, Dr. Yasser Abu Jamei and from abroad, MSF Dr Juan Paris.
Speaker bios are as below.

With her husband, Francis Khoo, and others, Dr Swee Ang, an orthopaedic surgeon, helped to form the British Charity, Medical Aid for Palestinians, following the 1982 massacres. In 2018, Swee joined the Freedom Flotilla, al-Awda for Gaza.
We were unfortunately not able to host Dr Swee to share her incredible work with Palestinians since the 1980's in our last event due to her health recently. We ask you to keep her in your prayers. Instead, she has kindly shared with us a recently co-hosted webinar exploring Breast Cancer care in Gaza and the immense challenges Palestinian women face.
This webinar is an opportunity to hear from Dr Suhaila Tarazi, Director of Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City. Along with members of her team, Dr Tarazi discussed Al Ahli’s breast cancer screening programme which is at the heart of Amos Trust’s Women 4 Women campaign.
She discussed the challenges of running a hospital under blockade and the lasting impact of Covid-19 on Gaza. Dr Tarazi and team were in conversation with Dr Swee Ang, consultant orthopaedic surgeon at St. Bartholomew’s and the Royal London hospitals and co-founder of Medical Aid for Palestinians.

Introducing our new upcoming event - a film screening and talk with Palestinian filmmaker Farah Nabulsi!
KCL Students For Justice For Palestine are excited to be hosting this event in collaboration with Queen Mary Friends Of Palestine, Nottingham Palestinian Society, Portsmouth Palestine Solidarity Society, Imperial Friends of Palestine, Plymouth Friends Of Palestine and the Association of Student Activism for Palestine.
Farah Nabulsi is a Palestinian British filmmaker and human rights advocate. In 2019, she directed her first film, The Present, which she also co-wrote. The film stars renowned Palestinian actor, Saleh Bakri. It premiered at Festival du Court Metrage de Clermont-Ferrand 2020 (Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival) and won the coveted Audience Award for Best Film. It had its North American premiere at the Cleveland International Film Festival, where it won the Jury Award for Best Live Action Short, qualifying it for the 2021 Oscars.
While The Present continues to pick up numerous audience and jury awards as it continues with film festivals around the world, it has since been short listed for the Oscars 2021, and long listed for the BAFTAs as well.
We look forward to seeing you there! 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸

As the sanctuaries of a home are left lay to bare,
Darkened corners crawling beyond streets and glare,
From lamps that burn but do not glow,
Graveyards of homes everywhere you go.
A faint whiff of past splendour,
Comes as quick as it goes,
A blast from the past,
Or so one might say,
Except in this case,
It can be taken in more than one way,
As those street lights that flicker,
At the darkest times before dawn?
Are the times when Israel 'mows the lawn',
A blast from the past?
Has a whole different kind of way,
A blast to the past,
Might be more accurate to state,
As streets are bombed,
Way back to the stone age.
A treatment that is chronic,
But acute in pain,
For millions who've lost love ones,
Martyred and slain,
They're city... left bleeding,
In immeasurable strain,
For how long we don't know,
Deep wounds precisely engrained,
Battle tested weaponry,
What's there more to say?
Perhaps it started with Trump,
Or back with Clinton in his day?
But annexation of this place happened in '67,
Well over 50 years from today
And If we were complicit?
Would that be a difficult pill to chew?
Sat in starbucks, ordering a drink or two?
Discussing change, ignorant to the proof,
That was in the pudding we ordered too.
To make a difference comes with more than knowing who's who.
'They are right...They are wrong',
If ever there was an oppressor's favourite song,
For the illusion of making a difference,
With words alone,
Is what has kept this system breeding,
On and on,
Read, learn, educate too.
Empower the youth.
Boycott, Divest and Sanction the few,
Who pillage and ransack from Al-Quds to Peru,
Stay resilient to the abuse,
And hold to the truth,
This one's for Jerusalem,
Let it one day be true,
That she's free from her chains,
And her people no longer subdued.
