First Point Physiotherapy

First Point Physiotherapy

We provide specialist MSK practitioners to work directly supporting GP's within their practice.

Our staff are highly skilled within MSK and are able to act as a single point of contact for patient care.

This post is to alongside GP’s as a First Contact Practitioner (FCP) in primary care to see patients with suspected musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions instead of a GP (20 - 30% of a GP’s normal caseload).
This model has proven to reduce the pressure from GP’s and primary care, reduce pharmaceutical costs, ensure imaging/referral on is appropriate and timely and improve patient satisfaction by offering early triage/advice and exercises.

The post involves seeing patients in 20 minute appointments and:
• clearing for red flags
• assessing to ensure it is an MSK condition

Then following the assessment it may be necessary to:
• refer to A & E or 111 (after discussion with colleague)
• in the case of non MSK conditions speak to the GP
• encourage patients to self-manage with advice/exercises/using the voluntary sector/using a holistic approach
• refer for ongoing Physiotherapy
• refer for imaging ( X-ray/Ultrasound)
• refer for secondary care (MSK triage/orthopaedics)
• refer for specialist services such as Podiatry

The Physiotherapist will need to be registered with the HCPC and CSP and be at least 3 years postgraduate.

We offer regular CPD/appraisal/opportunities for discussion and interactions around clinical cases and flexible working across more than one site.

During COVID-19 many consultations have been remote via video link or telephone and we have connected with the patients electronic record (ie Systmone/EMIS) via a virtual private network (VPN). These are now returning to more face to face appointments but is closely monitored and PPE is supplied.

For any further information please message on here or to Joannah Keller’s profile or email her on [email protected] or call her on 07932033544.
