What's the difference from normal mat Pilates?
We use (optional) light weights and activation bands.
Oh and of course...
We still use the 6 Pilates principles:
Concentration - bringing our focus to the body, noticing the muscles engaging, any imbalances. Getting that mind body connection can really help support our mental health
Centering - engaging our core muscles.
Control - carrying out each movement with control.
Breath - using our breath to engage our core and pelvic floor muscles, bring energy to the muscles and activate our parasympathetic nervous system (helping us to leave the stressful day at the door!).
Fluidity - moving fluidly with control
Precision - using precise movements

What a very long, busy, but hugely rewarding weekend teaching the students on the Health Coaching Diploma course
Watching students progress from being so anxious about having their first health coaching client to being excited after completing their first real life coaching practical gives me a warm glow.
I'm especially pleased that they take on board the feedback given and even better when i see them put that into practice to improve their coaching skills.
I just love teaching the group from day one of their coaching module through to supporting them in their practical coaching sessions.
I feel like a proud mother 😅

Tonight we're using bands and balls.
Some people love the bands workout so much they bring their own bands so they can use them at home as well..
Not just working an amazingly strong core, but also strengthening our legs and arms.

They may have been long, and busy days but what made it easier was the beautiful health and wellness retreat I was working at and the wonderful clients I have worked with.l and helped
Getting in early so I could just take in the countryside around me and say hello to the alpacas definitely energised me for the day ahead.

I'm working as a Practitioner all this week at the lovely Homefield Grange health and wellbeing retreat this week. It's in such a beautiful setting.
Menopause is a natural stage of life that every women will go through.
Acting before you get menopausal symptoms by considering diet, stress levels, activity levels and general life style prepares your body (and your mind) for the life change ahead of you.

We all know change is hard, our brain is hard wired to keep us safe.

I've just had a quick look and can see some of my favourites in the sale too.
Geranium and Orange hand wash smells just divine and after the harshness of anti-bac sprays it's lovely.

So the opposite problem of not sleeping is keeping focused during the day (a symptom of not sleeping!!)
Today I'm needing a little help with concentration and focus.
After a busy, active weekend you would think that sleep wouldn't be a problem for me! Tonight will be different (i'm telling my brain that now to prepare it for later!)
So what do you do when you need more focus during the day?
Caffeine? Sugar? - problem with those two is they give you a quick fix which then comes crashing down and you feel worse.
My solution is an essential oil mix into my humidifier of rosemary essential oil and peppermint essential oil. It's refreshing and works quickly as well.

I'm feeling a little help is needed with focus and concentration ...an active and busy weekend with poor sleep is not a good mix!
Peppermint and rosemary essential oil in my humidifier and a few deep breaths
getting light exposure first thing in the morning plays an important role in regulating the secretion of melatonin.
Light suppresses melatonin secretion, which wakes the body up, and helps regulate to the body's circadian rhythm helping with sleep at night.

I had a client that came to me for Weight loss and, it turned out, poor health...
She counted calories...
Saved up her calories to eat chocolate in the afternoon...
She didn't understand why she wasn't losing weight (and felt tired all the time) as she was only having 1200 calories a day.
If you're going to count calories make sure you're getting nutrient dense foods into you calorie count.
If my clients feel more in control if they are counting something, then we find a way to help them feel in control, and get results.
I get them to switch to counting colours of veg and fruit.

Do you find your hair shampoo creates loads of lather?
I know I used to think if my shampoo or shower gel (or washing up liquid come to think of it!) doesn't create a lather then it's not working.
But this isn't the case. Shampoo lathers because it contains chemical compounds called Sulfates like Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS)

Do you Nibble at the food whilst cooking? We often do this mindlessly.
Not fully focusing on what you’re popping into your mouth – then when it comes to eating the meal you’re already full – but I bet you still eat the meal you prepared?
Both these things obviously impact on our weight.
