Thank you Contact for having me along to capture Contact Young Company’s rehearsals of Halo last week. Congratulations on smashing the shows this week too (looks like the final one tomorrow is sold out already!)

Halo is directed by Keisha Thompson and inspired by the Halo Code, a campaign fighting for the protection and celebration of Black hair and hairstyles.

Halo explores young people’s experiences in schools and workplaces in regards to their hair.

Featuring songs and movement inspired by the Halo Code itself, the company will also bring to the narrative their responses to writer Emma Dabiri’s book, Don’t Touch My Hair and the well-known Solange Knowles song of the same name.

Laura’s beret obviously caught my eye. She used to be a professional dancer and can’t do it much anymore due to arthritis so was enjoying everyone else dancing, like the lady in the second photo, who danced off before I could catch her name 💃
