So lets rewind and start again,

Hi I am Elaine, long term anxiety and depression sufferer with experience with alcoholism (No not me!) and bereavement in su***de. Wow you say, too much information, well you know what, this is me take it or leave it. These things have made me who I am. I have not been through the worst and I certainly won’t be the last but I will talk about my experiences as I know it will help others.

So why did I start Miamama?.

Well when I was going unacceptably through a dark time in my life I experienced the benefits of baby massage and yoga as a short one off session but I couldn’t find a class near me to continue with this. So I had a great idea, I decided I would do my baby massage training and offer these classes to all the mothers in my area who would be like me and be desperate to do this with their baby. I was a little wrong in my expectations lol.

Anyway although I do not do this as frequently as I first set out to, I do still provide baby massage and yoga classes. I did not do this training to make a lot of money but I did do it to be able to provide that mother like myself who desperately needed these classes. Due to the cost of overheads and lack of demand in the area, I mainly offer one to one sessions to those who are dedicated to learning the technique to benefit themselves and their baby.

Why am I any different from the next baby massage instructor?

My main focus with this is the actual learning of the techniques and how they benefit parents and baby. Don’t get me wrong I am all for mums getting out and meeting other mums but that is not my main focus. I want to teach mums this wonderful technique that they will continue to use daily at home and not just to be forgot about, otherwise it is pointless.

So what next?

Again when I was going through my dark stage but accepting treatment. I was encouraged to get out of the house and do something I might enjoy. I attended a sewing and knitting class and as a result of this, I now make various keepsakes in the form of stuffed animals and blankets but I also make personalised frames which are very popular and a great new baby or birthday gift.

Again what makes me any different from the 1000’s of other people doing the same keepsakes?

Honestly it is all to do with personal preference. Two artists can draw the same picture but each picture will not be the same. The time taken, the colours, the quality of materials, the passion and dedication will be different for both artists. Price unfortunately can win peoples decision making but I can assure you I will never be rich from making keepsakes as I can not turn them around quick enough. Unfortunately very few people actually appreciate the time and effort that goes into handmade products and if I priced according to my time, I wouldn’t make any sales therefore I still make the keepsakes because I love making them and I know how much these items can mean to people. It just makes me sad sometimes that people can think that handmade items are expensive but pay at least £40 to get their hair done monthly.

Swiftly moving on...

Due to my life events and experiences I have learnt that my real passion and focus is towards promoting better mental health in both adults and children. I wanted to use my past experiences as a means to help others and as a result I have put together a number of blogs and developed downloadable resources to help kids with certain aspects such as anxiety and kindness.

I am also dedicated to educating others on the natural benefits of essential oils. I was unaware of the benefits myself until I tried them in desperation to come off medications and I have been absolutely astounded at how they have helped not only me but my family with sleep, anxiety and for myself low mood. I believe that everyone has the right to experience the power of these oils whilst improving their overall health. I have no time for BS and convincing people that they need to look after their health. You either care about yourself and your family or you don’t, simple. These oils work and I do not give a hoot if you believe me or not, either try them or move on.

So can you see how our past can help define who you are? If I didn’t go through or experience any of them past ordeals I would not have done my baby massage or yoga course, or learnt how to sew and explore my creative side. I would not be able to write blogs from the heart or develop resources to help others. I wouldn’t be switched on to any signs of anxiety with my daughter or be able to develop resources which will help children with anxiety etc, as I was there, I know the feeling and I know what might help. Again what makes me different from the next person creating resources?, as I said, I have the actual life experiences and scars to prove it. I have walked in the path of those I am trying to help, I know the signs and symptoms and I know what I needed to help me but unfortunately I never received it.
