Why do relationships get into trouble?
The quick answer is how long is a piece of string? There are so many variables but there are three key themes that tend to crop up with the couples that I've helped in recent months:
Infidelity, lack of intimacy and growing apart.
There are reasons why all of these themes crop up in relationships. Something has broken down somewhere. However, the Solution Focused approach isn't concerned with focusing on that - why?
We are where we are right? Most likely you've done all the arguing, ruminating, blaming, shouting, ignoring the issue and probably crying - only to find that the 'problem' hasn't been resolved.
I'm interested in that connection that brought you together in the first place. Where the hell did that go? And have you both got the real underlying respect and admiration for one another to get that back despite life's challenges?
What if you could get that back? I see many couples who do. When you become so embroiled in the problem you lose sight of your strenghts as a team.
Even if the answer to that question is 'No', isn't it better to be certain that you've both changed to the extent you can't make it work going forward than responding from anger, frustration and resentment?

Focus on realtionships this week - in this case the lack of one!
I see many little loves who are seeking their soul mate.
I learned this lesson the hard way. I'm sharing it with you so you don't have to.
Spending time on my own, taking time out for me at an incredibly difficult time in my life, was both the hardest thing I've ever done yet the most precious gift I could have given myself.
It enabled me to get true clarity about the life I wanted and the type of people I wanted to have in it.
Once you have that clarity your internal radar (technically your RAS - won't bore you with that one but look it up if you want to) will start focusing on what you actually want.
You will actually start to see what you're getting for your time, effort and emotional investment. You will become more discerning, able to see through the BS. You will start to judge intentions by what others actually DO and not what they SAY.
You don't NEED a person to be complete. You're fine as you are. The right person will be the one who wants to grow with you and wants the best for you too.
Take care of you, take time out, get that much needed clarity and enjoy life. Like attracts like.

This post is dedicated to the gorgeous Debra Penrice because she is a wonderful human who helps authors to write their soul stories.
Some of us don't believe in writing about our life experiences. Some see it as self-indulgent. They are of course entitled to their view. But this is just how I see it.
My life experiences, the good the bad and the downright ugly are exactly what has brought me to this place now. I want to help others to heal from trauma. I want to help others to experience the benefits of practicing Self-Mastery and the sense of liberation and wellbeing that develops you when you truly become your own person.
That's why I do what I do now and I love it. One day I would love to write a book about my shizzle and how I overcame the goddam lot of it with the courage to walk away from anyone or anything that tries to bring me down or disrespect my values and my sense of self-worth.
The best outcome from writing my story would be that it helps others to discover the Little Legend that lies dormant within them too.
When that day comes I know exactly the right person to help me on my journey ๐

Overthinking? Catastrophising?
This comes up ALL THE TIME in the therapy room. The thing I most often remind clients about is the fact that THOUGHTS ARE NOT REAL.
How many times have all those worst case scenario imaginings actually come to pass? You imagine that the piece of work you've been putting off is going to be really complicated and it actually turns out to be OK. Or you have to speak in front of an audience. You're dreading it. Only to find that you absolutely LOVED every moment of it.
One of the best antidotes to negative and intrusive thoughts is healthy distractions. Here are some suggestions or just simply ensure you make time to do the things you love. Your brain will thank you! ๐ง ๐๐

Worth thinking about isn't it?
What springs to mind when you see the 'A' word? Drugs? Alcohol? Smoking or va**ng? Gambling maybe? All very valid responses.
Here are some others to think about - food, dieting, a particular person, routine behaviours (OCD), overworking, exercise, gaming, s*x, p**n or risky behaviours.
With substances, many of us start by using them just for fun. Trouble is that over time they will impact brain chemistry. Instead of producing your own Dopamine you start to rely on the substance to do it for you. Then before long you need more and more substance to get the same impact.
Many addictions start with a need to manage an overwhelming, stressful or traumatic event or series of events. We use them as a crutch to distract from our thoughts and negative self perceptions.
Two things to take away Little Legends if you feel this is you or someone close to you:
1 - if you feel that this is you, YOU ARE a Little Legend and you are capable of overcoming any addiction when you feel ready to heal.
2 - if someone close to you is struggling with an addiction ask them this simple question; if I was the genie in the lamp and could grant you 3 wishes what would they be?
They might just surprise you by bringing up hopes and dreams that, to them where they are now, might seem impossible to fulfil. All you need to do is start planting little seeds of hope. What if that could happen? What would be different?

Think this is nonsense?
It really as as simple as this: when your parents told you that the sky was blue and the grass was green, did you question it? Did you Google it to make sure?
This is how easy it is to form beliefs. And whether or not those beliefs serve you are based on a number of factors such as how you're feeling at the time, your mood, what sort of day you've had, whether you're tired, previous similar experience that didn't go well etc....
Was a belief based on input from someone else? Maybe someone in authority? Or someone special who you trust?
Two things I would love you Little Legends to take from this post today:
1 - you are the expert on you, no one else. People can assume they know what's best for you. They can assume aspects of your character but they absolutely cannot KNOW you and what you need. A person who truly loves or cares about you won't TELL they will ASK and LISTEN.
2 - anything you have learned that doesn't serve you can be un-learned. You absolutely can re-programme you to allow that Little Legend to shine through unapologetically.

One of the most important aspects of working in a solution focused way is to meet our clients where they are without judgement.
Itโs taught me so much about not trying to change people to fit in with my view of the world or the ways things should be.
Sometimes things are as they are and people are where they are and we just need to accept that fact. We can either walk alongside them until they feel ready to make positive changes learn to accept them just as they are ๐
I used these techniques with my husband Andy when he wasnโt getting the results he wanted despite all of the training he was doing.
A change of mindset leads to that โflowโ state talked about here.
Remember- you are all little legends and you have all the answers you need that are just right for you.
If you can work in your mindset you will be the happiest and bravest little soul you can possibly be no matter what life throws at you ๐๐
