My role as a scientist is to insist that we look at the true value of the ocean, and see it as a precious asset. We must learn to appreciate what it delivers – rain, weather, water – rather than what we can extract. ‘First do no harm’ should be our approach. We've spent the last centuries taking from nature, and finally we are at a point where we must change things.
