1. Growing older is a commonality between all people. However, navigating this journey isn't commonly discussed. Vital Align provides tools and guidance to appreciate where you are and prepare you for this natural course!
2. Friends and family provide security and comfort. The people we have close to us are reflections of ourselves. I am grateful for this support system. My sister got me back into the gym and these last couple of weeks have been great!
3. Moving your body can look a million different ways. An intention to move is the place to start!

A LOVE LETTER WITH NATURE

My excitement with the outdoors stems from growing up in Sri Lanka, the greenness of nature warms my heart.

This liking for nature allows me to capitalise on exercises/activities outdoors as there's a double bonus to me mentally + physically.

Finding out and trying out activities in environments where you are comfortable and energised provides better success for these activities to happen. Exercises / moving your body doesn't come naturally to everyone. I'm always great for my intrinsic motivations surrounding this and want to support others with feeling more comfortable to move with what's available to them.

A land like no other, my first home - SRI LANKA

Learning about where you come from, physically but also psychologically. Look back on your family and think about traits 'passed down'. We quite often learn patterns from caregivers and figure out methods of coping from a young age. Refection is vital to understand more about ourselves.

VITAL ALIGN WEEKLY REFLECTIONS:

1. Trying is always the hardest part, but it's the difference between doing something and not. I'm grateful for having intrinsic motivation to allow me to continue trying! This week has been tough. getting back into the swing of full-time work after 3 months out is definitely a change of pace, but allowing myself the time and understanding is only a month since I've been back! Change isn't always easy and time tells all!
2. Eating right helps a lot. I've gotten into a semi-routine since starting work again (s/o to the 9-5) which has helped a lot with my diet. I am someone who needs to know what they are eating and when to ensure I can function. When is my next meal?, is what I'm constantly thinking about. Making sure you provide yourself awareness of what foods are good for you and promote your vitality is really important.
3. Live life - I've had recent anxiety around running out of time, and not doing enough. This is a constant, common dread of many and I wanted to share a reminder (to me) as I'm coming to the realisation (again, it is a cycle for me) YOU'RE NOT RUNNING RUNNING OUT OF TIME.

In this work, Maslow related β€˜motivations’, which drive individuals to act, to personality.

Maslow (1987) proposed six levels to what he calls a β€˜positive theory of motivation’. He suggested the more basic, or fundamental a need was considered, the more likely it was to be addressed.

In other terms, an individual’s actions are prompted by the circumstances the person finds themself in.

The hierarchy consists of:
1. Physiological - including very basic bodily functions necessary for life, (for example the need for oxygen)
2. Safety - including security and stability; protection from harm; freedom from anxiety, fear, and chaos; structure/law and order.
3. Belongingness and Love – including giving and receiving affection; friends, a mate, children; roots, a neighborhood, clan, or other grouping such as work colleagues.
4. Esteem – including a stable form of high evaluation of self; self-respect; esteem from others (reputation or prestige).
5. Self-actualisation – including engagement in activities that use personal talents (such as for music, athletics, invention, or parenting); to achieve concomitantly with aspirations.
6. β€˜Aesthetic’ needs – including craving/preference for symmetry, closure, completion of the act, system, and/or structure primarily in the (built) environment. This last β€˜need’ does not feature strongly in his discussion of the model.

These are the types of things Vital Align can provide education on, assess areas of life that could improve its quality, and provide you with accountability to achieve this!

My mother is truly the reason I dream, my ambitions are twice as big because of the way she raised me. The relationship with her has evolved through the years and the love compounding. I've loved getting to know her again in my adult capacity and is a friend to me just as much as a loving parent.
