Hi everyone, we just have some news about the Duke Elder examination for September this year, as we know we have had a lot of questions about this.

The university applicant deadline for this was the 13th May, however unfortunately we did not receive communication via email from the university about the upcoming deadline as normally happens, and so we apologise if anybody has now missed it for application for 2024, some of ourselves are included in this.

Do not worry if you have emailed in to the university separately and specifically, your application has been received and you will receive further communication shortly. Also, this is an annual examination so there will be plenty more opportunities for younger years to apply again in subsequent sittings!

We understand that this news is probably most troublesome for those in their penultimate year of study if they haven’t been able to put themselves forward, but we have been communicating with RCOphth to determine whether you will be able to sit the exam next September, as final years are able to this year, within the first month of graduating, or whether this is only for this transition year, where the examination moved from March to September. We will let you know as soon as we have this information.

If anybody has any queries, questions, or worries, from now up until the exam date, please do message the page and we will try to help in whatever way we can! X

Hi everyone! On behalf of a charity that supports people living with Charles-Bonnet Syndrome, they are running a national medical students essay prize, the top prize being £300! This is not a normal essay, but instead the critique of one written by ChatGPT, so it’s a really great opportunity to engage critical and lateral thinking, which tbh isn’t a skill we get to exercise too much in having to rope-learn 2000 ankis!

Opportunities for prizes in Ophthalmology and related fields (particularly Neurology and Psychiatry with regards to CBS) are very few and far between, so this is a great chance for students to demonstrate their commitment to speciality for future applications!

This opportunity is not solely for those interested in the above specialities, winning a national essay prize is like gold dust for any speciality portfolio, and it offers the chance to take a deep dive into a really interesting, but oftentimes devastating condition for those first experiencing the symptoms!

The information is overleaf, and the information can also be found in a document here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gBbmkJQCPJnJfE2qtctOf9o3jROL_LojnWzE9b0JOHo/mobilebasic

We really encourage you to visit page for more information about this competition and also the incredible work the charity is doing to support those living with CBS!
