🎈 30 years of South London Women’s FC 🎈

Thirty years ago today under a tree on Clapham Common South London Women’s FC was formed!
The group of women had already been playing together for two years under the name ‘South London Studs’ and had competed locally as well as at the NYC Gay Games! But on this day 30 years ago a new era was born! The original team were Champions of Division Six. Winning 12 out of 16 games, scoring 71 goals and letting in just 23.

Today, and for this next season, we’ll be celebrating 30 years of stories, friendships and football, shared amongst hundreds of players, coaches, fans, friends, dogs and everything in between.

We should all be very proud and honoured to be part of this club’s history. Let’s look into the next decade with a desire to see this club remain a testament to what football should be, in its purest form - a source of joy, gratification, and everlasting bonds.

So a big thank you to our founding members, we’re celebrating you tonight…. Under a tree on Clapham Common!

🧤Goalkeepers Wanted 🧤

With three of our four teams being promoted this season we’re looking to strengthen our squads starting at the #1 position! 🧤 🤗

With openings across most of our teams, and fluidity to move within the teams we’re looking both for experienced goalkeepers as well as players who have experience in other sports such as Gaelic, netball, basketball or even AFL.

Dedicated and specific coaching will help you achieve and improve at SLWFC, so if you’re interested in seeing what life is like South London send us a message on social media or use our ‘join us’ page on our club website (and mention you’re a goal keeper!).

Now in its second year our annual WAGs and HABs match kicked off today on the football pitches in Battersea Park!
Wives and girlfriends, husbands and boyfriends (and sons, friends & housemates!) enjoyed a competitive football game with the black team coming out victorious 4-2!

South London women’s football club is looking to grow our coaching team for the 2024/25 season!

We’re looking for passionate individuals who have a knowledge of football and interest in learning to help guide our teams!

Our coaches need to be available most Tuesdays, Saturdays and/or Sundays over the season. Our training sessions run from 6:45pm on Tuesday and 9am Sundays with games on Saturdays and Sundays.

ANOTHER PROMOTION CONFIRMED 🆙⬆️

A strong season with 14 wins, 2 draws and 4 losses is rewarded with a promotion to the Div 1 South competition for our Sunday Reserves team!

This is reflective of a strong season all round at SLWFC, with 3 of our 4 teams moving up in their respective competitions!

Very excited for our upcoming trials for 2024!
We’re looking for players to strengthen our squads as we set our sights on season ‘24/25 and as our first team enters the premier division of the . We also have a second team in the GLWFL as well as two in the on Saturdays.

If you’ve had previous football experience, want to join a fun and competitive club then come along to our trials.

On the 29th June we will join thousands of other Londoners as we March in 🪧🌈

We are really excited for our first parade as participants, but lgbtq+ history at SLWFC goes back a long way, 30 years to be precise! Our pioneering founders attended and competed in the 1994 gay Olympics in New York City and since that moment our club has celebrated the diverse people who make up our players, coaches and supporters!

⚽️ HEAD COACH ⚽️

SLWFC are delighted to announce our new head coach, Carlos Lopes!

Carlos has done an incredible job since joining the club two years ago, particularly in the last 12 months alongside our other wonderful coaches Emily, Clark, Denise & Lynlea.

A season to remember as interim joint Head Coach, Carlos has set the bar high: two promotions, two league titles, two unbeaten seasons and one league cup in the bag.

The club continues to evolve and the committee are working hard to ensure we keep improving and developing. Carlos has and will continue to be a key voice in this.

Please join us in congratulating Carlos on his new role, we can’t wait to get started on our 2024-25 season journey!

As the 2023/24 season comes to a close we reflect on the great players and committee members who will be stepping away from the club. We’re so thankful of the time that every player gives to SLWFC, without them we wouldn’t players on the grass, kit to wear, pitches to play on or the great club culture that we do. We wanted to thanks a few special people who played for the last time in SLWFC kit on Sunday!

©️ Our wonderful Club Captain Elaine is handing over the armband after years of service to the club! We celebrated her on Friday at our awards night and again want to thank her for her dedication to SLWFC, the sacrifices she’s made for us and the energy and commitment she’s given our club!

❤️💙 On the weekend in reserves game we also said farewell to Nic and Char! Both have held committee roles over the years and helped to build our club up to where we are today. We were so glad to be able to celebrate them on Sunday and give them the send off they deserve! Thank you Nic and Char! 💙❤️

Our first team played in the John Greenacre Memorial Trophy cup final AND WON IT! 🏆
An early goal from Ginny just 14 minutes in put us ahead for most of the match but with only 10 minutes to play Luton Town Reserves equalised. It was an intense final few minutes of play with SLWFC trying everything to regain the lead but it went to penalties!
Incredible Cassie saved 2, with another going high and some precise finishing from SLWFC was what was needed to get us to lift the trophy! 🏆

The season is over for all our teams now and we’re looking forward to a break from football and some more celebrations on tour!

Our Sunday trainings sessions will continue over the summer but with some breaks. Currently scheduled for this weekend (02/06) and the first weekend of July (07/07) you can sign up on our website if your interested in playing with SLWFC in the 24/25 season!

Iona Williams - Hare Award: choosing to run away when the oppo faced up to her and for jumping the highest despite being one of the shortest on the team!

Annalees Craig - Nutcracker Award: could be performing a ballet concert, could be at football… we’ll only know when she goes so far as to split her head open which we don’t think happens that often at the ballet!

Shaniqua Okwok - GPS Award: someone download city mapper onto this girls phone, we’ve lost count of the times she’s turned up to the wrong ground! Lucky for us she always makes it in the end!

Ruth Orbach - Miraculous Recovery Award: not once but twice Ruth has defined the odds and come back earlier and stronger than we could have ever imagined! Not sure what could stop Ruth playing football but it sure isn’t having a baby or tearing an ACL.

Rhian Garland - Go Big or Go Home: Rhian loves to score goals, but she never settles for just one in a game. 5 in one match is an average day for our amazing Rhi!

Jamie Li - Bubble Wrap Award: Jamie gets taken out more times than anyone else on the team! Let’s get some bubble wrap to protect her, although we always know she’ll be back out and fighting quickly!

Kathy Page - The Joe Wicks Award: always front and centre at fitness, Kathy also is the queen of motivational speeches and has the whole team sorted with her half time snacks!

Cassie Sternbach - Save of the Season: We all remember ‘the one’ but really it’s for every match she played in goal where she saved us both with her ability to stop those almost impossible shots but also her direction and game awareness!

Ellie Farmer - Paparazzi: The reason our socials have such great pictures! The dedication and time Ellie gives SLWFC, we are so pleased and proud of have her not just as a great player but the unofficial club photographer!

Our first teams have made it to the John Greenacre Memorial Trophy Cup Final! 🏆 Can they make it league AND cup winners this season? You’ll have to be there to find out! Our match against Luton Town FC kicks off at 2:30pm.

Reserves are looking to close their season with a win as they face Camden Town FC! Location is now confirmed as Aspire at Southfields, SW18 4SS, kick off 11am! We need all the support we can get as we fight against two other clubs for 2nd place finish in the league!

We won’t have any Sunday training this weekend as we support the two teams, but look forward to the final session of the season on the 2nd. If you’re looking to get involved with SLWFC you can sign up for these training sessions as a pathway into our club on our website using the join us form.

A hot day didn’t stop our reserves getting three great goals and the three points! A great performance by all with a high work rate throughout the middle of the field!

We can’t wait for our final home game of the season! It’s going to be a great day, the sun is (currently 🤞) forecast to be shining and after a weekend off we’re super excited to get back to playing football!

Our reserves fixture is called off this weekend due to the opposition being unable to fulfil it, so we’re reminiscing on all the love we’ve had at recent games!

Our supporters are part of our football family and our club couldn’t have the success it does without them! We especially love when family come along to games 🥰❤️💙

Our reserves cup run comes to an end after going to penalties. A hard fought game and great team performance saw 1-1 at the end of regular time but Tooting Bec Reserves will progress to the grand final. Good luck!

Our first game out strong with a goal just 4 minutes in! Islington Borough FC were well organised so it took until the 55th minute for our second which secured our path through to the Cup Final which will be on 26th May (more details to come!)

Our firsts started off the day with a win over Ashford Town (Middlesex) FC. Ashford Town put up a great defence against our hungry attackers as we needed this win to put us top of the table and be promoted!
