Friday feedback!

🌱 Here’s a lovely review I received from one of my clients who’s been having a pretty challenging time of it. However, even with everything that she has been going through she committed to the 3 month programme and consistently met with me weekly.

🌱 Despite fasting intermittently she wasn’t losing weight and this was one of her primary goals. Regulating her eating pattern throughout the day and focusing on prioritising protein at each meal plus incorporating interventions to better manage sleep and stress resulted in my client losing weight and inches around her waist and not needing to snack as often during the day. The transformation wasn’t just physical but my client managed to implement these long term sustainable changes which are now part of her daily life.

🌱 Intermittent fasting has gained popularity in recent years and there is plenty of scientific evidence supporting its benefits depending on how it is implemented and the individual’s unique physiological response but it really isn’t suitable for everyone, especially if you are a woman and are chronically stressed.

🌱 So, if you are interested in a one-off review to check if your diet is on track for your lifestyle or a health condition you are managing or, you are looking for some new ideas about how to better manage your health, head to my bio to book in a free complementary call to see if the Health MOT is right for you. 💚✨

Have you tried intermittent fasting?

SEASON’S GREETINGS 🤶🏽🎄❄️⛄️

🌱 Well 2023 has been a year like no other. Starting a new business this year and juggling numerous family and life commitments whilst helping others to improve their health has been a rewarding challenge. Thank you for all your support and a special thank you to my tribe for the support to keep going ✨

🌱 2024’s intentions will be to continue working on my business and to continue working with and supporting new and existing clients, as well as focusing on my many and varied self-care strategies.

🌱 I wanted to share this post as it may hopefully resonate with someone managing a long-term or chronic health condition. It’s a gentle reminder that it’s never too late and you’re never too old to start your remission journey. Don’t let your health fall off your priority list. Time will continue to pass by in any case, so why not make 2024 your year, and utilise the time to focus on you and your health, and making changes to enable improvements?

If you’d like to know how nutritional therapy may benefit you, please drop me a message to find out more 😊

In the meantime, have a restful, healthful and peaceful festive break and roll on the new year! 💚✨

Client testimonial:

🍃Within 3 months of working with my lovely client we were able to reduce her overall symptoms severity score from 80 down to 31.

🍃Her main health concerns involved ongoing long-term IBS-M associated symptoms, and she wasn’t due to see her Gastroenterology team until December. The GI tests we undertook enabled us to escalate the results to her Gastroenterology team which has resulted in an expedited appointment to address her clinically low pancreatic elastase levels.

🍃My client’s weekly attendance and her consistent compliance with dietary and lifestyle changes is really what has made the difference, and has enabled a noticeable improvement in reducing or eliminating a number of her symptoms already.

So, if you are ready to find out more about how nutritional therapy may benefit you, to address your own health concerns, please feel free to schedule a complimentary 15 mins enquiry call in the bio above.

Wishing you a beautiful weekend ahead! 💚✨

BANT press release 13/04/2023 - Latest figures show an alarming rise in T2DM in the under 40’s, and highlight a failing food industry.

Latest figures from Diabetes UK reveal that the number of people living with diabetes in the UK has topped 5 million for the first time (1). 90% of those with diagnosis have Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). More alarmingly is the rise in diagnoses in the under forty age group, highlighting the increasingly younger demographic of the disease.

Speaking on the BBC Radio 4 Today Programme, Professor Partha Kar, National Specialty Advisor on Diabetes with NHS England and co-author of the national Diabetes GIRFT report, attributes this rise to earlier and better diagnosis of T2DM, paired with increasing deprivation across the UK making healthy food unaffordable. Widening health inequalities are being fuelled by a food industry dominated by 10 top retailers holding a combined 95% of the retail market share (2). These supermarkets act as the gatekeepers between manufacturers and consumers and hold considerable power over the foods people can afford to eat. The food that generates these supermarkets the most profit is ultra-processed highly palatable, long shelf life, nutrient-poor products that are high in empty calories, sugar, salt and fat (HFSS). Namely, the very foods associated with diet-induced metabolic dysregulation and T2DM (3).

Variety-the spice of life!

Aside from 1:1 consultations, I offer nutrition and well-being talks to both corporate organisations and social health and well-being hubs.

Last week, I had the fortunate opportunity to join the wonderful Butterfly Café which is a Dementia-friendly informal hub bringing creativity and hope for people living with Dementia and their carers, in Lambeth. I was asked to talk about strategies for optimising sleep which was specifically requested by the lovely group, and it was a really engaging and interactive session which we ended with a meditative breathing exercise to calm the body and mind.

Feel free to reach out or head to my website in the link in my bio above, if you’re interested in holding workshops or seminars to cover topics including:

NEW feature Article - There are not enough GPs to tackle the burden of non-communicable diseases: Nutrition practitioners are a crucial addition to every Primary Care Network

The current state of primary healthcare is ill-equipped to handle the increase of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), with the shortage of GPs and the 9-minute consultation model putting patients at risk. Social prescribing has been suggested as a solution, but it requires funding for services outside of the NHS...

Autoimmune diseases, including rheumatic diseases, affect 3-10% of the world population. Most autoimmune diseases are defined as a complex trait disorder where multiple genetic and environmental factors interact. Functional medicine looks at everything that shapes the immune system, including hereditary, environmental, and intestinal factors that together cause the cascade of events leading to autoimmune disease. Recently, a number of significant advances in our understanding of the genetics of autoimmunity have been made through genome-wide association studies and the use of omics technologies. Research findings are helping scientists move toward a more personalized treatment approach for patients with autoimmune disease. I’ll be joining Danica later today to discuss the role of nutrition in autoimmunity.

Danica is a Mum and a Glamma of three and
raised her 2 sons while working really hard, climbing the corporate ladder. She reached the height of her career but burned herself out trying to create a better life. In 2019 after being diagnosed with an autoimmune condition went on a fact finding mission in 2020 to find natural alternative solutions for her condition. Danica left her high level corporate job and became an independent partner to a Scandinavian Biomed Tech company and recently started her own business.

Danica is on a mission to help show and educate individuals into transforming their health and led Danica to contact specialists in their field including individuals suffering from autoimmune conditions to share stories on how they did it and also to share valuable tips for how you can do it. This mission has turned into an Online Show with 8 Specialists in their field, called Balancing Your Body From Within and to educate individuals on how complex our bodies really are.

Here is a preview of what will be covered in the 3 day event:

● Painting the world a new picture on healthy
● Multiple Sclerosis
● Klinghardt 5 Levels of healing
● Nutrigenomics and functional medicine
● Critical conditions that are fundamentally present in ALL Chronic Diseases
● Reclaiming Your Power
● Nutrition plays an important role in functioning properly

Firstly, Happy Diwali & Bandi Chhor to those that are celebrating! 🪔

I thought I’d share this delicious extra fudgy brownie recipe as these went down a treat over the weekend, and the best bit were family and friends trying to guess the special ingredient! This recipe makes about 10-12 brownies.

Ingredients:

2 cups (250g) cooked black beans
2 heaped tbsp cocoa/raw cacao powder
1/2 cup gluten-free oats
1/4 tsp sea salt
1/3 cup pure maple or agave syrup
1/4 cup coconut oil
2 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup 70% dark chocolate chips
Additional chocolate chips, for presentation-optional

Next steps:

🪔 Preheat oven to 170 C.
🪔 Blend the oats until they are a flour consistency
🪔 Add the rest of the ingredients (except the chocolate chips) to the food processor and blend until texture is completely smooth.
🪔 Stir in the chocolate chips, and then pour into a greased or parchment paper lined tin.
🪔 Optional: sprinkle extra chocolate chips over the top.
🪔 Place in oven and cook for around 15-18 minutes.

Leave to cool before serving (ideally with coconut icecream) but these also taste great the next day, if left overnight in the fridge!

Self Care 💚

🍂Jumping on a plane may seem like an excessive self-care strategy but there are plenty of accessible ways to implement self-care rituals on a daily basis.

🍂 Self care tools for living well include: eating nourishing healthy foods mindfully, getting optimal sleep, exercising regularly, and reducing stress, i.e. stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system by finding ways to relax (e.g. meditation, listening to music, reading, breathing techniques, having a bath, yoga, Pilates, walking in nature, gardening, to name but a few).

🍂Self care is just as essential as nutrition when it comes to optimising your health goals. So, the question is, how do you practice self-care on a daily basis? 💚
