The other thing I struggle with is hearing that very young children are ‘lazy’ as a reason for late talking. They’re never lazy. They’re learning to talk differently. They’re far more likely to be trying harder than their peers to communicate. But they are not lazy.

Once again, we are disappointed to see negative comments blaming parents for their child struggling to talk and understand words on our recent campaign. It's time to shift the narrative!

Instead of blaming parents, let's empower them with resources and guidance and ensure the 1.9 million children struggling with talking and understanding words have access to the support they deserve. Together, we can help every child face the future with confidence. 🤝

Talking Outcomes is closing its clinical services to families & schools this summer, increasing capacity for professional supervision for SLTs & embracing new exciting ventures including a PODCAST!

Launching this summer, the podcast will feature my and other SLTs’ professional stories💡. Our learning, mistakes, insights and genius ideas, all in bite-sized chunks. Clients’ & students’ stories will feature too.

The first episode is written and I have a student on placement soon who will (hopefully!) help with the tech side. Sneaky peek – it’s about how watching a David Attenborough documentary had a transformative impact on my practice. If that rouses your curiosity then more info will follow soon…

These changes mean I’ll have space for two more supervisees working in schools. So if sorting some professional supervision is on your to-do list for this summer – please get in touch 👍

Now that RCSLT insurance covers independent SLTs to take students, there are fewer barriers to enabling us to support the next SLT generation. Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice

First face to face day as Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice Learning & Development Director. An inspiring day using member ideas to shape the upcoming conference with these phenomenal women 😁

Today we enjoyed some September sunshine and and met for ASLTIP board. We welcomed a new member to our team Jan Baerselman, who's stepped into the role of (acting) Director of Learning & Development.

We scored ASLTIP grants and started the process for updating our much desired Setting Up In Independent Practice Course.

High on the agenda was planning Therapy Talks and Jan already has some great ideas for building on its success.

We've just been reminded of this post from last year when a board about DLD was displayed at a London Underground station. Thank you to AllOnboard for helping us to raise awareness of Developmental Language Disorder

Wise words from Bryony. We can only nurture others if we look after ourselves. I’ll be ‘walking to work’ this morning - round the block & back to the home office. Just to hear the birds & gain some headspace.

He said, “You achieve an awful lot for a team of one with no help.” It’s easy to tell ourselves that we’re not doing enough, should be doing more, that other people are getting it all done.

Sometimes you need to hear a reminder of just how bloomin’ much you’re doing.

I see you juggling. Being emotional support for so many. Crossing off those to-dos.

Please take a minute to acknowledge it all. 💗 Give yourself a break. Maybe even a nap.
