Every year, June marks PTSD Awareness Month and we’d love for you to get involved to support our mission to help EVERYONE affected by Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD and C-PTSD), no matter the trauma that caused it.
It’s estimated that in any given week in the UK, 4 in 100 people have PTSD – this equates to 2,612,000 people in the UK, yet it’s still an incredibly misunderstood, and still relatively unknown condition. Unfortunately, there is still a huge percentage of people with PTSD and Complex-PTSD who are not getting the support they need.
Some people may not realise they have PTSD or C-PTSD and may mistake their symptoms for a normal part of life following trauma, while others with a diagnosis may not be aware that effective treatments exist. Misdiagnosis or co-occurring disorders can also obscure PTSD or C-PTSD symptoms for some individuals, while others may struggle to communicate their experiences or seek help.
During June (PTSD Awareness Month), we’re encouraging everyone to raise awareness of the causes, symptoms and treatments available to educate, help empower and inspire resilience in everyone affected by PTSD or C-PTSD, to help them work towards successful, sustained recovery.
If you, your company, school or community would like to support PTSD Awareness Month, you can use the resources on our website to take part:
