When is the best time to have my chimney swept? - Home Sweep Home Why should you get your chimney swept in the Spring? Every year in October as soon as it gets chilly our phone get ridiculously busy. So far today Darren has been in Walthamstow carrying out a new homeowner chimney inspection (https://www.thelocalchimneysweep.co.uk/new-homeowner-chimney-inspection/) while Josh was carrying out the same service for clients in Mill Hill. Darren has since gone on to Wood Green, Cheshunt and his next stop is back in Walthamstow to make a full circle.
Josh went on to Cricklewood to clear a chimney prior to fumigation by pest specialists due to a moth infestation. Now Josh is in Uxbridge installing a cowl before heading into Gerrards Cross to install some more!

And breath!

Some repairs of a fireplace today. The cast fireback was in very poor condition so it was replaced with a Vitcas refractory fireback. It looks much better, and the installation of the new fireback with a throat forming lintel should improve efficiency and increase heat output.

Such a busy day today I forgot to take any decent pictures.

Darren was out sweeping several chimneys in St Albans and Harpenden.

We also visited Markyate in Herts to remove a stove and flue, sweep the chimney and ventilate the existing plate ready for an electric stove to be installed.

Then across to Kimpton near Hitchin to replace a broken birdguard and install some new glass on a stove.

Another pre and post sweep.

Remember, regularly sweeping your chimney will ensure it produces fewer emissions, will prolong the life expectancy of your chimney liner and will reduce the risk of issues such as chimney fire and spillage of smoke into the room.

An opening for a school leaver apprentice, (maybe older for the right person) to learn the art of being a chimney sweep. This will involve working on site with the senior chimney sweep, attending training courses ranging from rotating disc to flue physics, putting together a portfolio to go towards an NVQ L2 in chimney sweeping, learning to operate a cherry picker, piloting drones for chimney surveys among other exciting opportunities.
The hourly wage will depend on experience and CV, but will exceed to the minimum wage for an apprentice in the applicable age group.

This is a good opportunity to embark on a career in an unusual trade with opportunity for progression, diversification and independent working, which will culminate in a rewarding career and good pay.
