A healthy food pattern is one that is diverse, varied, and colorful. I was just reading a paper this morning about plant diversity and the many associated health effects. The basic threshold is to aim for 30 unique species of plants or greater as the research would suggest that this is the point at which you see associations with microbial diversity and short-chain fatty acid fermentation.
