Fidget Heaven
Welcome to my page. I make handmade, hand sewn fidget based items for adults who have Alzheimer's, D Hi my name is Lorna. I trained as an Art therapist.
I was raised in the North of Scotland -so far north that you could see the Orkney islands from the bedroom windows. Art has been a passion of mind since I was young. In more recent years I haven't done a lot with that as life took over but in the last while I have been motivated to rekindle this passion. My father was diagnosed with Alzhemier's a few years ago in his early sixties. He is now in th

For the last 4yrs I have participated in a mini quilt swap group! This year ironically I gave a circular storm at sea quilt and I received a more jewel-like quilt also based on storm at sea.

So today, I had not 1 but 2 little loot bags arrive!!! I think my original one has got lost in international post somewhere, so to the person who originally had me as a swap partner I want to say Thankyou for creating something and that I am sorry your creativity won’t be seen. To Lindy and Wendy THANKYOU so much for the little bags of joy that arrived today, you are superstars!!!
- i started this quilt 18 months ago, stopped working on it a year. Been busy since. Picked it up again this week, another block done, 4 more to do, then the piecing will be completed!
So my parcel hasn’t arrived yet, it is obviously coming from a distance away!!! However I have found a pincushion pattern that I couldn’t wait to try, so here is my practice one!
After 2 yrs of owning this machine, I have finally gotten around to making a cover for it - Scrappy / crazy patchwork- it was fun to make!
Hello my lovely swap partner! Looking at a main background couloir, do you prefer the cream or the blue or are more or a grey person???
my fabric and zip choices for the little loot bag swap, planning on making this Saturday 😀🇬🇧
For my swap buddies - a different selection - are you a traditional person or a modern design person?
. Hello from Nottinghamshire UK. Some fabric pulls for the loot bag swap, a bit more traditional hence why they have been in my stash for a while as I err towards light and bright. But still beautiful fabrics, all Moda.
Thankyou to those that have donated so far, I have managed to purchase 15 blankets for the Xmas day drop in at Edwinstowe Village Hall. I still have a way to go as am looking to also get some hot water bottles (these are £4 each) to go with the blankets to make a heat pack x

Is it too early for Christmas makes!!!! A prairie point Christmas tree!!!
Struggled to get the patterns here in the UK, however have managed to get my mitts on this one - fun to make!
Latest and last fidget blanket for the foreseeable. I do enjoy the challenge of making these but I no longer have the luxury of time!
Playing with some hexies- rainbow style!!! Plans to turn them into some soon!
My 2nd yo last fidget blanket for the foreseeable future, as much as I love making these, I just don’t really get the time anymore to do so! This one is for an Edinburgh lady, who loves walking up the crags at Arthur’s seat, sunflowers & cats!
Fabric pulls for mini challenge - just need to get my mitts on the actual patterns as they have sold out in the UK!
My story
Hi my name is Lorna. I was raised in the North of Scotland -so far north that you could see the Orkney islands from the bedroom windows. I studied textile design at University then went on to train as an Art therapist. Art & textiles have been a passion of mind since I was young. In more recent years I haven't done a lot with that as life took over but in the last year I have been motivated to rekindle this passion.
My father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's a few years ago in his early sixties. He is now in the later stages of the illness. As with anyone who lives with this condition we are learning as a family day by day.
One of the many symptoms that we notice was that my dad was consistently fidgeting, fiddling and twiddling with objects with his fingers. I decided to look at getting him a fidget blanket, but when I came to looking on websites and craft sites I struggled to find one that wasn't either pink / flowery or childlike. My Dad is neither and I wanted something that kept to the person that he was whilst also remaining age appropriate - so I created something myself for him. I have since gone on to open my own Etsy shop and make items for others also.
I hope you like them......
