The HMRC's proposed shutdown of the Self-Assessment tax helpline from April to September has been put on hold following concerns from Chancellor Jeremy Hunt. The shutdown plan aimed to encourage taxpayers to use online services like chatbots for assistance, which sparked debate. HMRC is now consulting on the impact of this plan on small businesses and taxpayers.

HMRC has announced that live-streamed funerals are now exempt from VAT.

This change comes as a response to the rise in virtual ceremonies during the pandemic.

The exemption also extends to live streaming of cremations or burials. If VAT was previously charged, adjustments can be made on future returns. These services, provided by undertakers or funeral directors, now join a list of VAT-exempt offerings. However, it's important to note that third-party live streaming services are not covered by this update.
