Declaring there are just “10 days to save the NHS”, Liberal Democrat Leader Ed Davey said:
“There are now ten days left to save the NHS. This election is a chance to end the shocking scenes of people having to wait 12 hours or more in A&E, often in pain and in overcrowded waiting rooms.
“Years of chaos and neglect under this Conservative Government have left the NHS on its knees. Patients are being catastrophically let down.
“The Liberal Democrats have put forward the boldest plan of any party to fix the NHS and care. We would make sure everyone can see a GP when they need one, invest in hospitals and ambulance services, and fix the crisis in social care to take pressure off the health service.
“The future of the NHS is on the ballot on 4th July. Every vote for the Liberal Democrats will be a vote for a local champion who will stand up for their local health services.”

Kate Tipton - Knowsley Kate Tipton is the Liberal Democrat candidate for Knowsley at the General Election on 4 July 2024
Who am I, and what do I stand for?
Kate Tipton is the Liberal Democrat candidate for Knowsley. She is a Maths teacher at an academy in Widnes, and is also a live-in carer for her mother. It is no surprise, therefore, that she is passionate about improving education and the support offered to the most vulnerable children in our schools, and increasing the support offered to those in need of NHS treatment and social care.
Kate is also determined to target companies that pollute our water with sewage, enact the Hillsborough Law to ensure accountability of our public servants, fund and restore our NHS after 14 years of damaging Conservative cuts, and end the two-child cap on child benefit. To quote former US Vice President Humphrey: “The moral test of government is how that government treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the elderly; those who are in the shadows of life, the sick, the needy and the handicapped.” Kate believes that the Conservative government has failed to pass this moral test over the last 14 years, and plans to do better.
In very tough times, the British people have shown remarkable decency and strength. Everywhere across our great United Kingdom, people from all backgrounds and all walks of life are working hard, raising families, helping others and playing by the rules – but finding it harder and harder to make ends meet. More and more people are turning to the Liberal Democrats to put an end to this terrible Conservative Government.
They know that every vote for the Liberal Democrats is a vote to elect a strong local champion who will fight for a fair deal for you and your community. Vote for Kate. Vote for change.
Always ‘Think Bike’ when you are out and about on the roads. Keep everyone safe.
Tomorrow, you may see an increased presence on the M6 from Charnock Richard services to Burton in Kendal, and we want to let you know why.
Saturday will see thousands of motorbike riders make their way up to Barrow in honour of the late ‘Hairy Bikers’ star, Dave Myers.
Titled ‘Dave Day’, motorcyclists will travel from all over the country to meet at Burton in Kendal, before riding in a procession into Barrow in Furness.
For us in Lancashire, we are expecting a lot of those participating to make their way up the M6 through to the Cumbrian border and on to the meeting point.
Our Roads Policing Unit officers will be out and about working with National Highways teams and Cumbria Constabulary, to help keep traffic flowing smoothly,
We’d like to use this time to remind you about driving in a manner which is mindful of the safety of vulnerable road users, including motorcyclists.
So, what can you do to keep motorcyclists safe whilst out and about?
🛣️ Drivers should make a point of looking for motorcyclists at junctions. They can be hard to see at first glance because of their shape and colouring.
👀Make eye contact where possible to show you have seen them. Use your indicators to signal intentions and look out for their signals.
🏍Give motorcyclists plenty of space if overtaking them.
🚗Always check for motorcyclists when opening your car door, or when doing a manoeuvre.
🚦Understand that advanced stop lines at lights to allow vulnerable road users to get to the front and increase their visibility. You must stop at the first white line reached if the lights are amber or red. When the green signal shows, allow the vulnerable road user time and space to move off.
🚐Check your mirrors regularly and be aware of who and what is also driving around you.
For motorcyclists, you should:
🏍Wear a good quality, well-fitting helmet and protective clothing.
🏍Wear bright, fluorescent gear during the day, and reflective gear at night.
🏍Take a ‘lifesaver’ glance over your shoulder before carrying out manoeuvres, so you know where other drivers are.
🏍We’d urge all motorcyclists to install dashcam on their bikes. This can be submitted to us here 👉 https://unitedkingdom1cpp-portal.digital-policing.co.uk/lancashire/appeal/public-dashcam-submission
👆Please do read the above, and drive carefully this weekend, especially due to the unprecedented number of motorbikes we may see on our motorway network on Saturday.

Petition: Pause Ofsted inspections and reform how school performance is evaluated This petition is calling for routine Ofsted inspections to be paused so that the recommendations of the Beyond Ofsted inquiry can be implemented, moving to a system of self-evaluation by schools, supported by external school improvement partners, and a more limited role for Ofsted.
