Now firmly established as an acclaimed international DJ his current releases include the 'Reach Up Disco Wonderland' series on BBE.

So last night I was playing House tunes at The Rivali Ballroom In Brockley. South London, and what do you know, tonight I'm back there again playing 45s from the 1950s & 1960s with David Crozier & Veronica Stephens . Not done 2 gigs in a row at the same venue since Melbourne, Australia in around 2005 !! If you used to come to Madame Jo Jos on a Saturday night in years gone by you can expect the same atmosphere tonight in what is one of the most fantastic original ballrooms in London ! O Andy Smith γεννήθηκε και μεγάλωσε στη μικρή πόλη Πόρτισχεντ, λίγα χιλιόμετρα δυτικά του Μπρίστολ. Ήταν σχεδόν μοιραίο, συνομήλικός τους άλλωστε, να συνδεθεί με το ομώνυμο θρυλικό συγκρότημα που πρωταγωνίστησε στην έκρηξη του trip hop στα 90s. Ήταν ο DJ που περιόδευε μαζί τους και ζέσταινε το κοινό πριν τα live, εκείνος που διάλεγε τη μουσική για το επίσημο fan club τους, ξεδιπλώνοντας στα sets τις ποικίλες επιρροές τους. Αλλά, ο Smith αντιπροσωπεύει και κάτι πολύ μεγαλύτερο από τον τίτλο «ο DJ των Portishead».

Η Αθήνα που έχει χορέψει αρκετές φορές μαζί του, ήταν, άλλωστε, και headliner DJ του Generations 2017, τον περιμένει με άνετα παπούτσια και μεγάλη ανυπομονησία.

Andy Smith was born and raised in the small town of Portishead, a few miles west of Bristol. Almost inevitably, he bonded with the legendary Portishead, made up of musicians of around the same age as himself, a band that played a leading role in the trip hop explosion of the ’90s. Smith was their tour DJ who would warm up the audience before their live performances; the one who chose the music for their official fan club, unfolding their varied influences on the sets. But Smith also stands for something much bigger than the honorific “Portishead DJ”.

Athens has danced several times to his music—besides, he was the Generations 2017 headliner DJ—and is now waiting for him once again, with great anticipation and comfortable dance shoes on.

Well I decided to digitise my personal tape cassette collection!

I used to record tapes like these off the radio as often as I could to listen to them for the duration of the week

This is Ivanhoe Campbell 'Regge Rockers' show on Independent local radio Severn Sound from 13.3.87. Severn Sound was broadcast from Gloucester on FM but as I had an aerial the length of my house I was probably one of the most 'southernly' listeners - in Portishead). I learnt so much about reggae from Ivanhoe., sadly he is no longer with us.

Anyway, enjoy!
