‼️ Long Post Alert but I beg you to read‼️

As some of you may know, it's Organ Donation Week, a week that we now look at from a completely different perspective!

Again, as you may know, back in 2015, Gav was diagnosed with a degenerative heart condition which came about following a collapse off his bike .... Something he done every single day!

The GP that saw him decided to put a cardio referral in for him to rule out any underlying cardiac conditions - however, unfortunately, his tests come back with a diagnosis of ARVC. Lucky in one respect as many people die from sudden death without ever knowing they have this disorder.

We were told pretty much straight away that he would need an internal cardiac device (ICD) fitted which would assist his heart with a defibrillator and a pacemaker and eventually, he would probably need a heart transplant.

This seemed crazy!! Didn't seem real as he was fit and healthy with no health concerns( (or so we thought!)

Fast forward to 2022, Gav was having regular shocks from his defibrillator, he was showing clear signs of heart failure and 5 days before we were due to go on a family holiday, we were given the blow that Gav was far worse than we could tell and he needed to urgently go into The Freeman Hospital at Newcastle where he would have to remain as an inpatient on the urgent transplant list. He missed birthdays, Christmas, his son's growing up ... The list is endless.

7 LONG months later, our prayers were answered! We were told there was a heart, it was perfect! It was healthy and it was a match! It was Gavs!!

Surgery went well, recovery and rehab went well and then a further 4 and a half weeks later, Gav returned home to his family!! ❤️

We can never thank his donor and his family enough for the gift they have gave us! Laura got her husband back, Zac and Alfie got their dad back and Gav got his life back!

So, my point is .....

Organ donation, it's a taboo subject and something people only think of when they HAVE to!
🙏🏼 I beg you all 🙏🏼 .... Please have the discussion with your loved ones and make your wishes known!

For me, it's simple! If I would be prepared to take an organ to save myself or a loved one - then I am more than willing to give up mine should that situation ever arise! I don't need them any more when I'm dead so why take them with me?

Scentify UK23 also donates 10% of all profit to the Heart and Lung Association based at the Freemans as without them, our situation would be very different today!
