But it's got SO much more than that too, milkshakes, afternoon tea, homemade soup, platters and an amazing 'not so secret supper club' (I've been to one and it was truly amazing!).

It's a hop skip and a jump (or maybe just a hop and a skip) to the beach too.

Dunes Cafe Waxham Barn in Waxham is a firm favourite with our guests, particularly in the warmer months where you can take a stroll on the beach before sitting out on the sunny patio where you can have anything from lobster and crab, to sausage rolls, to an amazing ploughmans.

This week we want to celebrate some of the amazing dog friendly places you can visit when you stay with us!

Up first is Cafe Carmel in Bacton. If you have visited, you will probably have met Ponyos the resident meet and greeter. And it's so close to the beach, you can work up an appetite before hand!

Whether you are vegan or not, this is a must visit for the amazing cakes and more, and it's SO dog friendly, that they will even bring you an extra blanket if your dogs want a bit more warmth on the sofa with you!

Well this could cause some confusion! 😂

What are the differences?
ThatchED Cottage sleeps 4 and is on the Norfolk Broads
Thatch Cottage sleeps 8 and is close to the Norfolk coast

ThatchED Cottage has a hot tub and plenty of shops and cafes nearby
Thatch Cottage has no hot tub and is peacefully rural

ThatchED Cottage is all on one level
Thatch Cottage is on 2 floors (but has one downstairs bedroom)

What are the similarities (apart from the name!? 😂)

They both have a lovely thatched roof (obviously!)
They are both truly dog welcoming (4 dogs for free)

Please could I have a fabulous stay at East Ruston Cottages this Christmas?

I've chosen Ruby Gem as it is SO close to the beach and I really want to run on the beach every day! I know my mum will love it too as the house is all cosy and comfy and there are excellent cakes waiting for her to scoff! (It's ok, it's Christmas so diets don't count!) And we like a dog friendly pub nearby too and I know it's a short walk away and of course is dog friendly!

I have a quick favour to ask - have you been with us over the fireworks period? Either this week, or over new years or other times, to get away from fireworks?

We have a blog with all the properties which we think are 'safe' (obviously we can never 100% be sure) and I'd like to keep it up to date, so if you could let me know in the comments if it was quiet during your stay, that would really help!

I'm happy to confirm that Shadow slept peacefully the entire weekend at The Lodge - there were some very, very faint 'pops' but he didn't so much flicker an ear which was a huge relief for his human.

You may have received a letter from my brother from another mother Shadow, but I thought you should know that there was a grave error, because in fact it is ME in fact who has been the bestest boy this year. ⁠

I have in fact, stolen NO food (that anyone has 100% proof of anyway), I protect everyone from having too much fun by being shouty (too much fun can be very dangerous, it has to be the right amount of fun) and I am practicing to be an alert dog - I am getting very good at alerting strangers to the treats in their pockets, because we wouldn't want them to haccidentally leave them in there and get smelly. ⁠

The good new is that my brother Shadow and me both would love a Christmas break at East Ruston Cottage - how lucky is that for you!? Shadow missed a few though, so I thought I'd pop them here for you so that you don't have to go and search for yourself, I know you are busy! ⁠
