We at Teesside University Students’ Union (TUSU) are a leading employer of students in Middlesbrough. We are committed to training our student staff and giving them valuable work experience for their graduate careers. We are currently looking to recruit a number of staff to join our bar team. We are looking for enthusiastic, dynamic service-orientated individuals to help us make sure that every single student has the best time possible in our venues.

Our bars at TUSU, The Terrace and The Hub are the leading student venues in the area, providing the highest standards of service for our customers. We don’t just look after students as our venues are multi-purpose spaces and can be used throughout the year. Successful candidates will receive full training; therefore, no experience in bar work is necessary. Applicants must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours a week during term time. Applicants must be able to work our main events such as, Freshers and Bongo’s Bingo. Attending training events is mandatory and failure to attend will result in the job offer being withdrawn.

Successful candidates must be able to start immediately and be able to work during the Summer 2022

You must have:

A flexible approach is essential as night and weekend work is required

Excellent customer care skills

Ability to work in a team under pressure

Applicants must be a current student of Teesside University and must be studying at Teesside University during 2022/2023 academic year.

Advice and Representation Coordinator

£21,878 - £24,174 per annum

TUSU is consistently in the top 10% of students’ unions in the UK due to the high quality of activities and services we provide for our students.

We oversee a highly regarded student representation system, including over 500 Course Representatives, making real improvements to the student experience at University, School and Course level.

The role reports to the Student Support Manager and will help coordinate and develop the course representative programme, including delivering training, providing administrate support, and contributing to the overall enhancement of student representation across the University as well as providing a high level of administrative support to the SU Student Support (SUSS) department, in areas such as the TUSU Housing Accreditation Scheme.

You'll ideally be a recent University graduate and have experience of representation in a higher education environment and in coordinating and supporting a network of volunteers.

Above all you will be outgoing and confident in dealing with a wide range of staff and students from different cultures, age groups and backgrounds. The role will be a diverse one and will require you to be extremely self-motivated and committed, have a flexible attitude to work and be able to work in a student-led environment.

It is registered charity number 1136875 with an annual income of over £2 million, about 150 staff and 800 volunteers. We operate a wide range of services for students including:

SU Student Support - advice and advocacy on academic issues and housing.
SU Activities with about 50 societies led by student volunteers and a range of other activities
The Terrace and The Hub, and the SU Shop
We are looking for resourceful and committed external trustees to join our Board of Trustees to help us continue to improve the services we provide our members. We would particularly welcome applications from anyone with charity board experience and/or private sector financial and commercial background but would be interested in applications from anyone working in other sectors who believe they can bring transferable skills to the Board of Trustees.

We will provide training that covers the role and responsibilities of being a trustee, an induction to the Students’ Union, and a trustee mentor. The role is unpaid but reasonable expenses may be claimed.

We are looking for a committed student to join our Board of Trustees (please see our website for more information about the work of the Board) who can help us continue to improve the services we provide for all our members. Student Trustees are appointed for a term of up to two years. They attend all Board meetings (four in each year), reading papers and reports, and the Annual General Meeting.

We welcome applications from undergraduates, part-time or mature students. We particularly welcome applications from students with disabilities and other groups under-represented on our Board.

We will provide training that covers the role and responsibilities of being a trustee, an induction to the Students’ Union, and a trustee mentor. The role is unpaid but reasonable expenses may be claimed.

GRAB A JAB THIS WEEK

The Northumberland Roving Unit Vaccine Bus is on site at Middlesbrough Campus, Friday 10 December 2021.

It is delivering 1st and 2nd doses, as well as booster jabs to all eligible adults, in line with current government guidance on boosters. There will also be flu jabs available to those who are eligible.
