It was such an enjoyable Friday we had together, watching with the Youth & Young Adults. Film, crisps, chocolate, popcorn & friends... what's not to love?
It was a great film to watch. Based on a true story, the film tells of the teenage hippies in California and their spiritual awakening, swapping drugs for Jesus, realising that their broken generation didn't need quick fixes but a lasting fix, a saviour! Despite the thousands who came to faith, the leaders of the movement were not perfect, and neither was the traditional church happy or supportive of the welcome extended to the hippies, showing how God uses fallen & broken people to be vessels to changing the world 🌎 for good! The film πŸŽ₯ reminds us that we are all on a journey for truth, and that truth can be found in Jesus!
Woop! Woop! πŸ™‚

25/04/2024

Music Night last Friday πŸ˜ŠπŸ’š was an interesting night.
The group is still in its infancy, but we are trying to encourage young people to be musically creative, and would love local support of this new venture!

16/04/2024

Exciting news, this month's Friday gathering will be a Film Night! We'll be watching 'Jesus Revolution', and it would be amazing to have a good turn-out!
Last time's event went so well, and it was lovely to see such a mix of ages, and lots of youth and young adults!
The evening is free to attend and there are free snacks to keep you going through the film. 😁
The event will be at The Hawdon, Church Ave, Selby, on the Friday 26th April 2024. Doors open 7pm, with pool, table tennis, hot drinks etc available, with the film starting promptly at 7.30pm.

Have a look at the poster for more details, and for a sneak preview, why not have a look at the trailer here: https://youtu.be/8vmHFvnjPDw?si=fzGVkUN_QIqt5kEi

Hi everyone.
We have an event coming up this Friday which hopes to be a great social night for both young people and adults. πŸ™‚
We'll be having an acclaimed guitarist and founder of Guitar Aid coming to share about his faith, mission and music, giving away over 4000 guitars to people and communities around around 🌎 world!
He'll be coming along to our monthly Christian Social event at the Hawdon in Selby, and we'd love to see some of the local young people, parents/guardians, families, and adults come along and support the event! πŸ˜€ 7.30pm start, refreshments available. X

Thought for the week:Β

'ACT NOW'

I'm sure you haven't been able to miss the posters and posts across social media, billboards and stations, instructing us to ACT NOW. However, when the climate crisis is worsening and we are experiencing the repercussions to our over use of fossil fuels and single use plastic, it does seem that very little people are taking any notice, and that there is little hope for not just our nation but our world. For us the people, it would seem that unless there'sΒ a large-scale societal, cultural, and governmental change then we are hopeless.Β

'ACT'

To act is to take action, and is not a commission we are to defer to somebody else, to a later date, or to a government, but is a commission for each and everyone of us. We at Dream believe that we are called to action; to be a positiveΒ change to this world; to be a light in the darkness. To act now doesn't require expertise or experience, all it requires is a willingness to help & make a difference. To act does not require you to overturn the government or raise a great riot; what it does require you to do is to look at your hands and at your own skills, talents, and resources, and to decide to use what you've got to change the world, one step at a time. We've probably all read the account of the young boy in the Bible, who only had his packed lunch of five loaves of bread and two fishes, and how he decided to 'act now', giving all his food (his resources) to Jesus, and helping to feed 5000 people! What little the boy had, he used for good.

What little (or big) do you have that can be used for good?Β

With love ❀️

LAST WEEK'S Thought for the week:
'love conquers all'
Last week we explored in our youth clubs, and discussed amongst our team, about how important it is to love. We read in the Bible that the greatest commandment is love, and this is because love conquers all. Today love is seen as much more of a romantic, temporary and fleeting thing, but the true meaning of love has it as a much more constant, committed and sacrificial venture.
We at Dream sign our emails off 'with love' because we really mean it. The work that we do is often not personally rewarding for our team. The work we do is not large-scale or profitable. The work we do does not make us comfortable and is not always very enjoyable. BUT, the work we do is transformational, and it is sacrificial, and it is life-changing. A few weeks ago when we were talking with the young people we shared the story of the boy on the beach with the starfish. The story goes that there was a storm that washed hundreds if not thousands of starfish onto a beach. A young boy was seen picking up the starfish one by one, and throwing them back into the ocean. A stranger goes up to the boy and asks him, 'Why are you throwing them back? Have you not seen how many of them there are? You couldn't possibly make a difference by what you're doing, you're wasting your time!'. The young boy then looked at the stranger, and pointed out to the ocean and said 'Well, it made a difference to that one'.The work we do has not solved the whole of the world's troubles, but it has made a difference, and it will continue to do so, 'with love'.
With love

JJ Heller - Hand To Hold (Lyrics) 16/02/2024

This week's thought is: 'To not be overcome by the world but to overcome the world with good'!πŸŒβ€πŸ’š
It is so hard to shine bright when times get tough, and believe us, times are tough, with war, famine, poverty, food prices... the list goes on. All of this & more brings sadness, grief and despair, and robs us of joy and makes our lights dim. It can often seem like there is no point in even trying to make a positive difference, because it is too hard... BUT your light, love, and efforts are WORTH IT and we'd like to encourage you not to be bogged down by the world but to CHANGE the world for good by your love!!!! ❀❀❀❀❀etc be world changers! 🌎

A wonderful evening despite the odd rain shower, last minute cancellations, and the stresses of putting anything like this together with limited volunteers and finance, we had an AMAZING evening, with A MILLION THANKS to Rob Halligan who lead not just his incredibly good set of original songs, BUT led us in worship as the sun was setting on Selby Abbey.
We had Rob until his voice was dry, and he even sang on request a Queen song to make the night of one of the young lads who came.
John Watkins led a great talk too, telling the story of the Prodigal Son, a story Jesus told to explain the even BIGGER story of love that God has for us.

Thanks to Selby Abbey for the use of their grounds and facilities, and to The HEY Smile Foundation for the loan of sound, lighting, and event equipment.

Wuhu!!! We made it!!! Here's to NEXT YEAR'S EVENT!!!

Good evening last night, though we were a bit thin on the ground. Wressle Castle is a wonderful gem and we can't thankyou enough for the kindness of the Falkingham Family who allowed us to visit!
On our discussion whether Dolly Parton's motto 'Be Yourself, Don't compromise' is achievable and helpful, the consensus was... that everyone agreed! Though peer pressure and culture can try to alter what you believe to be good and what you think to be right, stay true to yourself!!!! πŸ™‚β€β€β€

WE ARE REALLY EXCITED FOR THIS! TIME OUT IN THE CASTLE-our monthly time out session will be held in a local castle which not many get to go to (can you guess where it will be?)πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”
Meeting at 7pm outside the Hawdon, Church Avenue, Selby, and travelling together to the castle!
Our big discussion topic for the night will be whether the phrase 'Be yourself, don't compromise' is a realistic perspective and even possible in today's world!
We will be able to wander around the site, enjoy a buffet on the lawn, and then have a nice chit-chat!!! πŸ™‚πŸ™‚πŸ™‚β€ PLACES MUST BE BOOKED IN ADVANCE

Photos from Time Out To Dream's post 05/06/2023

Our May Session was a brilliant (but tiring) trip to Big Church Festival 2023, which was so encouraging & empowering to go to! Despite GSCEs, A levels, and Work, 5 of us from Yorkshire managed to go & what a laugh & Brill time we had!!! 🀣🀣🀣
