KMMS students and staff took a break from their work to plant medicinal trees outside the University’s Sports Centre! 🌳🧡

First-year students, in the middle of very busy pre-exam period, were taught about the trees before being given a lesson in how to plant them.

This planting is part of the University’s eight-part plan to create a ‘river of vegetation’ across the Canterbury campus, between the Kent Community Oasis Garden and the Diamond Anniversary Orchard.

The inclusion of Paper Birch, Witch-Hazel and Gingko species, donated by the Kent Men of the Trees (KMOTT), were specifically selected as part of phase three to occupy the urban area near the KMMS Pears building, due to their medicinal properties.

James Dobrzanski gave a research presentation today about Ultra-Low field MRI to the KMMS Research Group (a newly formed group of research-active staff, students and affiliated PhD students).

James is a Year 4 KMMS student and a qualified Radiographer of 7 years, and has been working alongside Dr Jo Rodda on researching the new low field MRI scanner, what it is and its potential use in being able to diagnose dementia.

It was great to be able to listen to the achievements already made using this and what the potential of the ultra-low field MRI could mean for the future.

LGBTQ+ In Lockdown Exhibition 🌈

As part of LGBTQ+ History Month, KMMS is showcasing the experiences of LGBTQ students during the Covid pandemic.

This collection of art and poetry, commissioned from over 20 students artists from the community, reflects the diverse range of feelings and experiences that are reflective of our wider community, and offers a window into the different meanings that the word ‘lockdown’ had for students.

When you have a moment, please take some time to view and appreciate this powerful exhibition, which will be on display all month, in the Student Social Space at Pears Building.

Some of our Year 4 students have spent the afternoon practicing their communication skills using an extended reality programme pioneered by and Fracture Reality using the JoinXR programme. The programme allowed our students to talk to patient avatars within a safe learning environment and to practice and reflect on their consultation skills during emotionally challenging conversations for example talking to some one with a perinatal mental health condition.
