Antique and Vintage Fishing
Fishing with Niko on our canal close to our home. Two hours of summer warmth and fun plus calmness watching fly by at the speed of sound 😀
The second very short session this week with my bestest fishing buddy Niko. As basic as it gets , 5m whip , line tied to the top and float hook and shot. We never stopped catching for 90 mins… all small Roach/Bream hybrids, Ruffe and lots of Perch… all on chopped worm. The smile says it all…. Paul ”when are we going fishing again” … it’s what it’s all about…

Chillin with my fishing gang. Only one cray FISH but a real criac was had by all of us watching the world go around and meeting such happy people…happy that we were just doin…. Being by the Water does that to the soul and we all connected with it on a bright day 😃😃🐟🎣 now.
Following on from catching my biggest canal Roach last time out I went after them again and laid out a bed of h**p and old breadcrumbs as groundbait. Alternating between 4 maggots and worms and sitting out the rain I started getting bites and missing them like last time out. This usually indicates clever big Roach taking the bait off the hook. So i was surprised when I caught a couple of nice little Ruffe then a Hybrid. Next came a small common bronze bream of about a 1lb which was a nice surprise!! The bites were very light with the float only moving and not going under as before. Then I pulled into what I thought was an underwater bush but it started to move and at first seemed like a Pike then it moved and came up and wow what a Bream…one of the canal bigguns…. These wild fish thing they are trout and not bream as they are very powerful in the runs like a large Brownie. Eventually it came up in the water and patient tension got it to my net which was only just capable of the job!! I need a bigger net if these keep coming!! after this I dropped and couple of similar sized biggies but in my eagerness ad their cleverness it was not to be but the light was closing in so off home it was. A perfect couple of April showery hrs that will stay in the mind for a long time…it’s not often I get to see these wonderful very large wild Bronze bodied beauties. Until a few days time I realise I know nothing …. Went for Roach !!! This fishing lark is always so much fun…Happy fishing 😀🐟🎣
It will be great to see everyone again at the home of put it in your diary and let us know what you would want to see there… see you there guys 😀🎣🐟💥 with enormous thanks to
At last I finally landed one of the larger wild roach last Saturday evening before the heavens opened. Very windy but just fishable and missed about six bites before finally connecting. A small well conditioned Perch ended the day on a high before he torrential rain landed. I got in with about a minute to spare…thank goodness. Fishing is fun…happy fishing 😀🐟🎣
A fabulous meet-up with Jason Simms of . Plans for to come this year…. Also planning a trip 🎣🎣
They don’t get much better than this 3 5/8” Dingley Machine Jellewed interior finished fly reel. Especially as it is for JA Walker the Alnwick rod maker. History coming together in a single reel. FABULOUS 😀🎣🐟

Gave my old Milbro glass rod a run out for the first time I’m about 50 years!! My teenager/boys rod of the early 70’s. Lovely couple of hours catch my ‘pet’ Red patch Perch again plus it’s side swimmer. I last caught the pair of them late January. It goes to show how territorial and close these fish are :-)
This view never get’s boring…even the moon came out to play. A few super conditioned Roach and Perch topped off two hours of literally cool fishing. Even gave my father’s Shakespeare International glass rod a dusting off. It’s still as straight as the day it was made. Happy Fishing 😀🐟🎣
