Christmas Memory Tree
Our Christmas memory tree is now in place at our Moorgate office, this is open for anyone to come and place a message of love to relatives, friends, colleagues you would like to be remembered at this time of year.
There is no charge for this, there is a collection for a local Rotherham charity if you wanted to leave a donation but it is in no way essential. It would just be nice to see you and to fill our tree with messages. If you are unable to come yourself please let us know and we will write a message on your behalf.
Thank you in anticipation from all at Bartholomew and Sons.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Thanks to our funeral director Matt Mulcahy for the hand painted tributes.
This life mattered.
Ready or not, someday it all comes to an end.
There are no more sunrises, no more minutes, hours or days.
All the things collected, treasured or forgotten, pass to someone else.
Wealth, fame and temporal power shrivel to irrelevance.
It matters not what was owned or owed.
Grudges, resentments, frustrations, and jealousies finally disappear.
Hopes, ambitions, plans, and to-do lists expire.
Wins and losses that once seemed so important fade away.
It no longer matters where you came from, or on what side of the tracks you lived.
No matter whether you were beautiful, or brilliant
Gender and skin colour are irrelevant.
So what matters?
How is the value of our days measured?
What matters is not what we bought, but what we built; not what we got, but what we gave.
What matters is not our success, but our significance.
What matters is not what we learnt but what we taught.
What matters is every act of integrity, compassion, courage or sacrifice that enriched, empowered or encouraged others to emulate our example.
What matters is not our competence, but our character.
What matters is not how many people we knew, but how many people will feel a lasting loss when we are gone.
What matters is not our memories, but the memories that live in those who loved us.
What matters is how long we will be remembered, by whom and for what.
Living a life that matters doesn't happen by accident.
It's not a matter of circumstance, but a matter of choice.
Yes my friends. This life that we remember mattered.

Update from Barnby Moor Memorial Park
Following the government announcement, we at Barnby Moor Memorial Park and Crematorium have made the below changes that will come into effect from 19th July 2021.
Limit on attendees – There will be no limit on the number of people who can attend a service. If you are expecting a large service, please book a double slot to avoid services overrunning their allotted time slot. The time between services allows our staff to perform a full and extensive clean down of all public areas.
Face coverings – It will no longer be mandatory for people to wear face masks while inside the chapel, but we do ask people to be sympathetic towards others who still wish to wear a face mask. We would highlight the continued guidance that emphasises wearing a face covering reduces the transmission rate.
Social distancing – All seating will be back to normal, and there will be no social distancing rules within our facilities. We do however ask people to be mindful of others while attending services.
Ventilation – To help reduce the rate of internal transmission, we will continue to open windows in our chapels where we can.
Foyer – The foyer is still for chapel attendants and funeral directors use only. Doors can kept open and speakers on for larger services.
Singing in the chapel - will be allowed but hymn books will not be used just yet.
Update from Rotherham Crematorium and also applies to Grenoside Crematorium regarding the lifting of restrictions.
From Monday 19th July we are pleased to announce that there will be no restrictions on those attending services
Waiting rooms will reopen for families
Seating will be reintroduced into chapels to serve the fuller capacity
We are also pleased to confirm that some of the positive practices introduced due to COVID-19, will remain in place, including:
Health and safety measures will remain in place to continue to protect visitors and staff, including:
Sanitisation of chapels and public areas
Hand sanitising stations will remain
While not mandatory, we politely request that anyone attending our crematoria wear a face covering or mask.
We want to ensure the crematorium is COVID-19 secure for all visitors and families who visit so encourage funeral directors, suppliers and the public to take good care when moving around our site. As always, the latest guidance is displayed on information boards located at Rotherham at the crematorium.
CURRENT RESTRICTIONS UPDATE
From the 1st June Rotherham Crematorium will allow the speakers outside the chapel to relay the service if more than 70 people are in attendance, social distance will still apply.
Thank you to the crematorium office manager Clare for keeping us informed as changes are happening.
We had to share this photo of some cupcakes that a family sent us this week, they were not only beautiful and delicious they also incorporated our logo into the design. We also had delivered 9 boxes of thorntons continentals from another family as a thank you. It doesn’t do much for our waistlines but it is really appreciated.
CURRENT RESTRICTIONS UPDATE
As restrictions have been eased over the last week at funeral services, before hopefully been lifted completely in the near future, we would like to give an update on current service restrictions.
Rotherham crematorium have increased to 70 mourners allowed in the chapel, the outside speakers are still not in use and webcasts are now charged at £25.
Barnby moor crematorium have increased to 60 mourners allowed in the chapel, the outside speakers are in use there for people to stand outside, their webcast facility is £35 with the option to view it up to 28 days after the service.
Grenoside crematorium have only increased to 46 and 30 mourners in the North and South chapels respectively.
Services in church are still down to the individual churches to specify numbers as it depends on the size of the church and their own risk assessments.
Face masks must still be worn at services unless exempt.
Take care
A cold but beautiful day at Barnby Moor Memorial Park, set in lovely grounds surrounded by open countryside, this is a facility that more and more families that we deal with are choosing to use. It is only a twenty five minute drive in a cortège from our Maltby chapel of rest and fifty minutes from our Moorgate branch.
They currently still offer one hour for the service when other crematoriums are restricting times to half an hour. When restrictions are not in place you can also have a two hour service allocation for almost the same price as some other local crematoriums charge for forty five minutes. It is a beautiful, relaxing setting for a service. They have facilities to stream services, display video tributes and slideshows can be played for a small charge. A photo can be displayed on screen or projected in the chapel free of charge. They also have traditional burial grounds and cremated remains memorials set around a fountain.
